CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
They already have it ............ well, HAD it until the Rump/Barr regime came along. We have to get that back, and NDA's should be outlawed! If you're afraid someone will hear of what you are doing or saying, you shouldn't be in the White House!
In information theory, the NEGATIVE of information, a measure of the DISORDER or randomness in a physical system. (Like the brain) Diminished capacity for spontaneous change.
I have to hand it to you, "entropy", you picked the right avatar. ;-)
Judging by your love of America's extremely capitalist economic system in the mid 20th century, I am pretty sure you are a right winger. Since blacks couldn't even vote back then you also seem pretty racist.
I am NOT for "America's extremely capitalist economic system." I am AGAINST it. I am a left-winger. I have three black grandchildren and a black great-grandchild. You could not be more wrong. I am a Social-Democrat that knows the value of "regulated capitalism". I am ANYTHING BUT a racist. I realize we had our problems back when America WAS great, but, we WERE learning. Today we are learning the hard way, under Trump! :-(

This is why I always have respect for you. We might differ about the best way to get there, but at least we agree where there is.

I saw in some of your older posts that you said you're a socialist. Do you know the difference between a socialist and a soc-dem? If you're a socialist, then your "there" is different than his.
Do you know the difference between a socialist and a soc-dem?
Lol. I literally wrote, "we might differ about the best way to get there", you quoted me saying that, and you still failed to understand what you read. Not only are you miserable, angry and intolerable: you're also a moron who struggles to understand English.
I have three black grandchildren and a black great-grandchild.
You thought America was great before it gave blacks the right to vote. If you care about blacks then you think America was disgusting back then, but you said it was great.
I am a Social-Democrat
How socially democratic was America during the time you said it was great? Because as I understand it, it was very close to 0%.
I realize we had our problems back when America WAS great
The problems outweigh the reasons to call it great, because it lacked practically any form of non-capitalist economics and was both racist and sexist. A real-soc-dem would know that. You are like, barely left of Hitler if you liked America back then.
That kind of inflexibility is what has U.S. where we are today. I have defended ANTIFA. I think much of the violence they have been blamed for is orchestrated by white supremacist organizations. Anything anti-fascist is good .... unless they go violent alone.
The socialism I want for America has been here for years. The way we all invest in our road repair, pay for our police and fire protection, our public schools and libraries, snow and garbage removal, Social Security, Medicare, welfare where needed, etc. is all socialism ..... even the bailouts for farmers and corporations is "socialism", BAD socialism when it's for political reasons, not necessity! THAT'S the kind of democratic socialism I'm FOR!
I said America was great, BUT! We were "learning". We were improving! The Kennedy's, Johnson, and some before them WERE WAKING UP, when America was great! Then, along came the bad guys. The Klan was allowed to rise again, the Nazis, the "Good Ol'Boys" and the gun lobby gave them strength. A black President had the GALL to be an outstanding President! Lived in the White House even! A LOT of whites didn't like that! Along comes Trump, their "savior", and here we are. America will never get back on the rig .... (maybe "left" track?), with HIM in office. Time to stop hating America and work FOR America! A REAL "anti-fascist America"! I am not your enemy, Trump and his followers are. And as MLK said, violence is not the way. Protesting , yes.
Great post buddy. I completely understand where you are coming from and I sympathise with your point of view. I think it would be foolish to ignore that society is populated by an awful lot of people to whom capitalism provides an incentive to work. It would be nice to think that everybody can be motivated by the thought of helping the species overcome the challenges nature has thrown at us, and that shallow, fleeting aspirations like wealth and power should not matter, but the reality is that some people are just selfish by nature and will not lift a finger to help others unless they are forced to do so.
For these reasons I would be perfectly happy with a balanced hybrid system in which socialism is used to deliver free food, housing, education and medical care, and capitalism is used as an incentive rather than a whip.
My true feeling however is that capitalism can never really be regulated or tamed to prevent it from doing what it is actually designed to do, and that is to stratify society and divide it into various classes on the basis of wealth. All the regulation in the world cannot stop that from happening, and neither can it prevent the inevitable hatred which develops between these classes as a result.
Yes. Uncontrolled capitalism leads to government control and an oligarchy. It needs to be controlled, not choked ..... which is a difficult balance. Back in the 50's when I was starting to work seriously, the tax rate on corporations was around the 90 percentile. A bit high, but, it led to a strong rebuild AND the Eisenhower Interstate System. Wonder of wonders ..... we STILL made millionaires! Then, greed and the wealthy politician became commonplace.
Still, we started making progress on civil rights shortly after that. Washington held a Democratic majority for years and America BEGAN looking REALLY great, then Reagan came along. Great President, terrible policies. A bit of a boost with Clinton, good policies, bad habits, ;-) at least in the office. A DEMOCRATIC SURPLUS! To later be squandered by another Republican! Another Democratic rebuild of the economy, (even under a Republican "do nothing" Congress), then Trump! Again, we are slammed with a squandered economy, record unemployment, racial problems worse than the 60's and a heavily armed country (again, courtesy of Republicans), that COULD lead to another Civil War! You know, the one the Republicans ended .... back in the day! How things DO change when Republicans get power! They've even destroyed THEMSELVES this time! There isn't a true Republican left! (And America [other than the Stock Market of billionaires] is, again a fledgeling country looking like a slave camp)! And THIS time we don't HAVE a leader with any compassion OR common sense! Ah, capitalism! I'd be in favor of bringing back the Republicans ... if we could FIND one :-(with compassion and common sense)!
Time for the capitalists to start paying BACK what , in many cases, they have stolen (by purchasing deregulation), from America, and putting some back into "Social programs" for the workers (of ANY color)!!
