Should I get a Mac or a PC?

I have used PC all my life and I always felt that there was a bunch of complex crap that I never use. All I do is play, surf the net, use itunes, and do homework. What is the best thing for that?

Macs rarely get viruses. They're almost always highly efficient, and are compacted with many computer-based amenities. PCs become slow after the first few months of use, and they are much more prone to getting a bug. Macs work fast, and even come with technical support. When PCs break down, you're on hold for 15 minutes only to have someone in a foreign country answer your call, and they are hardly understandable and oftentimes do not have many ways to assist you.

Who wins? Macs clearly. They're completely worth the investment.

The reason Macs don't have as many problems is because Apple has taken the time to idiot proof it. If you know what you're doing with your computers, you can easily prevent the viruses, worms, and the infamous "3rd month slowdown" without having to call Abhuel in India for assistance in the first place.

I went through the whole "Mac or PC aggggh what should I do" ordeal last winter, when I decided to buy myself a new laptop instead of a new car. I was initially very against Macs, thinking they were overpriced and overrated, but as I continued to go through the process, I sort of come to realise that while PCs were cheaper, they seemed just that... cheaper.

With a Mac, you get what you pay for, in my opinion. My dock right now shows Finder (a much much better organization system than My Documents on Windows), iChat, Safari (which isn't a great replacement for Firefox, truly) iPhoto (again, beats My Pictures any day), iTunes (comes with Mac, not with Windows), Microsoft Project Gallery (which isn't a Mac staple, but, no matter what you get, is awesome, Microsoft 09 owns my life), Preview (again, not all that exciting), Photo Booth (a fun addition), iCal (again, owns my damn life because it makes my life so much more organised), Settings, Microsoft Word (with my college essay open, ugh), and Mojo, just one of the many incredible apps you can download for Mac.

Macs are also really pretty, and really easy to use. All of the shortcuts, the finger tricks. It's so great and navigable, and serves my needs as a photographer perfectly. Maybe you need something else, but I love my Mac.

Pretty they may be, but do you really want to pay twice as much as you would for a PC?

Mac now has a bootcamp option which allows you to boot up in either Windows or Mac OSX. With that in place there is virtually nothing you can't do on a Mac that you could on a PC, but with many fewer problems. I made the switch and haven't regretted it yet. Go for the Mac.

get a mac cause they are really sexy and rarely get viruses!

A mac. They don't get viruses because only about 20% of people have macs so it wouldn't be effective to make a virus for a mac. And also, if you ever have used vista most of the time you will spend on a computer will be looking at the PROGRAM NOT RESPONDING screen. Macs rarely have problems, are more user friendly and instead of coming preloaded with crap you will ever need you can individually download what you need for free or a small price. For computers the most important thing is reliability.

I remember the days when I used a PC; I'll never get back the hours that I spent chasing down viruses and hoping to find the right software to correct them, nor is there any compensation for the angst-filled days that my computer just didn't work, nor is there recompense for the sorrowful waste of my mind and spirit as I clicked away endless pop ups. Thank God Almighty for my Mac!! It is worth every penny that I spent. It works! It works! It works! Free at last.

I received a Mac during Christmas 2014 and I love it. It is built to last and I don't have to worry about any viruses.

I love my mac and I've never owned a better laptop, but macs are just way too damn expensive. I think we should all boycott macs, iPods, etc. until the company lowers prices. But that will never happen. Oh well.

Yes they are expensive.

And with a Mac, you pay a lot more and get a much smaller hard drive and much less memory. But some would argue that with a mac you don't need as much, so I don't know. With all the problems PCs have it might be cheaper in the long run to buy a Mac with less problems.

But that's just it, I don't know anything about macs! I need help.

Side: PC

The only thing I know about MAC's in that their graphics and music are so much better than a PC. I need help too, or so it seems.

Well I'm going to assume that you're getting this for college since you're 18 and I remember that you just finished high school. In that case, I would say getting a PC is better because it is easier to write papers and do research and other school-related things. It is also much more compatible with different things throughout the school. I just got a new laptop for school. It was pretty expensive, but it's great! Runs Vista.

Mac's aren't any more expensive than Dell's, and no one has a problem with Dell's pricing. It becomes expensive though, when you want Apple to add your memory for you, and HDD's and stuff like that. I think of it as an idiot tax, like the lottery. Find two like models, and compare them, you'll see. In some cases the Mac is less expensive.

You must be joking, right?

Show me a nationwide retailer or any retailer for that matter that has brand new Mac's for $498. The least expensive one I found was at Best Buy for $999.

Get a PC! There's more of them around, i think their easier to use, simple, and almost all software works on it! Get a PC, not a Mac!

I agree PC's r nice to have! Mac's r nice to have if ur rich, but u pay for so much advanced software and stuff that probably most people would never use! I got my laptop over the summer and i love every part of it!

"I have used PC all my life and I always felt that there was a bunch of complex crap that I never use."

Mac's aren't obvious about it, but they are equally if not more "complex". OS X, is by far, more power-user friendly than Windows.

"All I do is play, surf the net, use itunes, and do homework. What is the best thing for that?"

It is true, that OS X is not good for "play". The curser physics are not the same, so it makes gaming feel a little awkward, besides that, it takes special attention (by the developers) to make a game run as good as it does on Windows on OS X. Not that's it's any more difficult, it's just that DX is sort of an industry standard.

If you're going to get into programming or some sort of science like that, I would probably argue for getting a Mac, but because you'll be gaming and doing normal shit it's more cost effective to get an average PC and let it run itself into the ground.

When I said "play" I wasn't talking about video games. I don't really use my computer for that.

If your going to work in the business world where PC has +95% of the market share, then you need to learn it if you want to increase your value to a prospective employer.

If you're on your own, or you're doing graphics work then a Mac is great.

Though I love Macs and have grown up with Macs, for your use I think a PC is better. It really depends on what your going to use a laptop for. If your going to use your laptop for more creative things, then your better off with a Mac, if you are more into gaming then your better off with a PC.

Macs are expensive and the majority of people don't know how to use them. I tried one out in a best buy once and hateded it; I tried to get to bestbuy.com on it, and i did not know how a single thing on it worked.

I should start by disclaiming all the myths you may have heard about Macs being "sooo much more stable than PCs". I have heard this a million times and it is simply NOT TRUE! Macs may not get viruses and are often harder to hack, but if you know what you're doing, you can make a PC just as secure if not more so than a Mac. PCs are hugely cheaper, and they are able to be modified, upgraded, and repaired right at home without sending it off to a factory somewhere and spending an arm and a leg. Don't pay so much for the brand name. PCs are just as good.

Side: PC

it is compatible with more games because the mac system is different from the pc system

i say definitly buy a pc but that is simply because thats what most companies and offices use. its like buying a foreign car from a new company that no one knows how to fix if it breaks down thats not saying macs will break but why would you risk not being able to use it efficiently

PC's are better because Microsoft software is better than Apple software.

The PC is more complicated, and not quite as user friendly as a Mac. However I am computer savvy and hold no issue with PC operating systems. I have been using the same 40 GB hard drive lap top for 7 years and it runs smooth as silk due to me resetting the computer to initial set up, running Comodo ( free security system ), and keeping my processes below 90K ;)

So as far as I am concerned Mac's are overpriced, PCs are the way to go if you are computer savvy!
