Should Marijuana be legalised in the UK?

This is just for a laugh really but I am also very curious to hear peoples views on this....'debatable' drug.

Absolutely. Marijuana should be legal everywhere in the same manner that alcohol is legal.

Side: Yes (I'm a pot head)

I agree. Weed could help so many medical problems. :)

Side: Yes (I'm a pot head)

Correct. I just do not see how politicians cannot agree that alcohol is more dangerous (substance wise) I understand marijuana is dangerous when it comes to soliciting and selling, lol but that's because of the illegality.

Side: Yes (I'm a pot head)

Yes, because if it does everyone wins. Which includes the govt.

Side: Yes (I'm a pot head)

I am not a pot head, but I support someone's right to use pot.

I agree that it should be legalized, one reason being we have far worse legal, like alcohol, and second, the government would make a ton of money off of the tax, like they do on alcohol, in which they could then evenly distribute effectively to the places that need it, as well as saving loads of money on these so called "rehabilitation" centers for people who are addicted to marijuana.

While I'm dubious about the ability of various governments to effectively monetize cannabis through taxation for a number of reasons... there is generally a sizeable financial benefit to be had just by ceasing the expenditure of resources on cannabis law enforcement.

I'm not certain just how much the UK spends on enforcing cannabis prohibition, but I'm confident that it's not zero.

NO. Let them simply get sloshed like respectable people do

Even considering that marijuana is less addictive, less associated with traffic accidents and less likely to inspire violence, (not to mention no hangovers)?

I'm not saying the pot is problem free or even "better" than booze. But why do we pick one arbitrary method of inebriation, particularly when the one in question has such significant societal ramifications?

I don't understand why something with a very negative effect on your body that can physically and mentally hurt you should be legalized.

It costs huge amounts of money to tax payers to keep it illegal. When legalized, it brings in money to ta payers.

Getting proper research done on the actual effects of marijuana and other illegal drugs is difficult because only a select fraction of users will agree to such studies if it is illegal.

Marijuana can serve medicinal purposes, and some MMJ users report that it is the only thing that helps their affliction.

Having actual standards for health and safety is impossible as long as the only source is criminals.

Keeping marijuana illegal forces it into the hands of gangs and violent criminals, forcing other wise law abiding citizens to risk dealing with those types. Also, if marijuana is legal, that cuts off a lot of money to the Cartels. It can actually reduce crime by being a legal substance, just like crime went down after prohibition.

Making it illegal doesn't make it that difficult to obtain. In some urban areas, teenagers have claim that it is easier for them to find pot or coke than to find someone to buy alcohol for them.

Your average grocery store in America is filled with products that have a very negative effect. Shall we campaign to have them all illegalized?

There are many reasons.
