Should Michael Savage have been banned from Britain?

A couple months ago a American Conservative radio talk show host named Michael Savage was banned from entering Britain/England/ the United Kingdom for his views. Jacqui Smith a high ranking British politician is the 1 who banned him. Recently she stepped down but the British still won't take his name off the list. Did he ever deserve to be banned from Britain for his "extreme views"? or is Britain turning into a fascist country?

First of all they'll let a man who blew up 270 people go home to a heroes welcome while they ban Michael Savage for saying America should fight to protect its language, culture, and borders. The UK is messed up.

In all fairness, he wasn't the only one banned. He was one of 22 people banned for being "an agent of extremism and intolerance".

Among those for whom Britain has rolled out the unwelcome mat are radical Islamist preachers, a Jewish extremist, a pair of Russian gangsters and at least five Americans: Savage, who has attacked the Koran as a "book of hate"; two white supremacist leaders; and a father-daughter team that travels up and down the U.S. vilifying gay people, sometimes with placards using an epithet for gays and proclaiming that God hates homosexuals. http://articles.latimes.com/2009/may/06/ world/fg-britain-list6

Michael Savage is pretty extremely intolerant, but really? Out of the 6.8 billion people on the earth, only 22 get banned? Just seems like a rather pointless gesture to me.

A politician should have no say in a business enterprise of this nature because it is not a case of national security, or anything. He should be allowed to fail on his own. The public can make sure of that by not listening. If he was making money, then people were listening. Who the hell is the government to tell you what you can and cannot listen to? I know a lot of people don't like him but what if it had been one of the guys you do listen to? Would you be OK with the govt. telling you that you are no longer allowed to listen to him?

"The government says it will ban any foreigners who have expressed views that justify or glorify terrorism, encourage others to participate in terrorism, foster hatred which could lead to violence, or engage in serious criminal activity."

I find it incredibly ironic that a guy who is famous for his hatred for the Koran is put on a list of "dangerous" people even though the book in which he preaches against meets the qualifications to be on the list itself.

Orwell might have been a few decades off, but it looks like Crimethink is starting to become reality in Britain.

lmao,

I wish we could ban him from here, the guy's a troll and I hate him.

But if they really think that he is capable of enacting the kind of extremism he preaches, sure why not?

But I think he's just a cowardly ugly little man with 0 balls to carry anything out.

lmao,

you must not have ever listened to him

"I said, 'So, kill 100 million of them, then there'd be 900 million of them.' I mean ... would you rather us die than them?" Savage added: "Would you rather we disappear or we die? Or would you rather they disappear and they die? Because you're going to have to make that choice sooner rather than later." - Michael Savage

Now, pretend a Muslim here in America with a Radio show said that exact same thing, but about Christians...

You know damn well they would be off the radio and under 24/7 security surveilance.

lol,

but oooooooohhhhhh no.

We're allowed to talk about killing Muslims, that's just fun.

Alright genius, keep that attitude going, and terrorsims will just get worse and worse and worse until hate speach like that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Side: Yes he deserved it

Let's just ban him from everywhere along with several other right wing nuts and cast them adrift on the high seas. Then they can take their tripe and sell it to one another. I see Ann Coulter as the captain of the ship and Rush Limbaugh as her first mate, LOL!

Firstly, learn what fascism is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Definitions_of_fascism

Secondly, if anyone fits the mould of a fascist, then it is Michael Savage. Let's take a look at some of the defining features of a fascist.

- "Fear of Difference", which fascism seeks to exploit and exacerbate, often in the form of racism or an appeal against foreigners and immigrants.

- "Appeal to a Frustrated Middle Class", fearing economic pressure from the demands and aspirations of lower social groups.

- "Obsession With a plot" and the hyping-up of an enemy threat. This often involves an appeal to xenophobia or the identification of an internal security threat. He cites Pat Robertson's book The New World Order as a prominent example of a plot obsession.

- "Pacifism is Trafficking With the Enemy" because "Life is Permanent Warfare" - there must always be an enemy to fight.

- "Contempt for the Weak" - although a fascist society is elitist, everybody in the society is educated to become a hero.

Michael Savage hits five out of ten (half, just incase you didn't get that) of Umberto Eco's features of fascism, and probably more if I took the time out to go through his quotes a little better and find more specific instances of his disgusting views. Try also comparing Michael Savage to Marx's view on fascism; you may find the exercise interesting.

You're so quick to throw the fascism label around without truly understanging it; using it as little more than a pejorative epithet to attempt to discredit opponents with differing views. Yet you immediately come to the defence of someone who clearly displays the agreed features of fascism.
