Should Newfoundland separate from Canada and form a new country?

On 26 September 1907, Newfoundland became a self-governing Dominion within the British Empire, however, on 11 December 1931, with the Statue of Westminster; Newfoundland became a fully independent country. After hard times during the 30s and a world war, Newfoundland joined Canada on 31 March 1949. Since that time, the government of Canada has not followed threw on any of the promises in the terms of union, and Newfoundland is now a fairly rich place, so should Newfoundland try it on their own again?

Yes, because Newfoundland is a distinct society that has been treated very unfairly by many countries. Canada took away their independence and gave them a bad deal which resulted in Newfoundland become even poorer than they already were. Plus, now a days, Newfoundland has a fair bit of oil, and if they had 100% of the oil revenues, that could be perfectly self-sufficient.

Side: Yes

If they want to separate themselves from Canada, they should be allowed to do so.

Newfoundland wouldn’t be any better off as part of the United States than they are as part of Canada, they would be even worse. The United States is bankrupt and falling apart, you would have to be insane to want to become American in the midst of all that.

Side: Yes

I think it would be a mistake for Newfoundland to secede from Canada.
