Should SONY Release "The Interview" movie Online or PPV or YouTube or DVD etc?

Obama: Sony 'did the wrong thing' when it pulled movie

WASHINGTON – Sony did the wrong thing when it backed down and pulled The Interview in the face of North Korean hacker threats, President Obama said at his new conference Friday.

"I wish they had spoken to me first," he said. "I would have told them do not get into a pattern in which you're intimidated by these kinds of criminal attacks."

This whole ordeal is like that South Park episode where they couldn't show Muhammad.

The money is spent, everyone knows about. SOMEBODY is bound to leak it online sooner or later. Might as well get a jump on that so they can actually earn back some of the cost.

Not to mention, stand up to the bullies. NK's leadership really needs to stop acting like heavily armed high school kids and start helping their people.

I think they will if they think they can make money. With the threat out there they didn't want the lawsuit liability, etc. With enough public support, the likelihood they will be sued decreases and the potential profit increases. If those numbers work, they will next evaluate the best delivery mechanism. I actually think they will avoid hulu, youtube, or other digital medium that would be nearly totally exposed to hackers - instead they might re-examine theaters since they are more distributed. Adversaries would have a low chance to totally disrupt the release, but might still pull of an attack at a small number of theaters - opinions might shift back on whether they should have released it, large law suits would still happen, and who knows how much tensions would escalate with North Korea. Something like PPV seems most likely since it is delivered by cable, satellite, and telecom companies, it will be harder to attack than netflix, it has decent upside monetarily, and even a successful attack does not have high risk of death or high dollar law suits.
