Should We Arm Our Teachers, or Make/Enforce Better Gun Laws?

Over six years of tracking, data has shown that gunfire on school grounds takes many forms and mirrors the problem of gun violence in America. Gunfire on school grounds occurs most often at schools with a high proportion of students of color—disproportionately affecting Black students. Every year, nearly 2,900 children and teens are shot and killed and nearly 15,600 more are shot and injured. An estimated 3 million American children are exposed to shootings per year. Witnessing shootings — whether in their schools, their communities or their homes– can have a devastating impact. Children exposed to violence, crime, and abuse are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol; suffer from depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder; fail or have difficulties in school; and engage in criminal activity.

What should we do in the face of such a crisis? Should we arm our teachers to defend our students, or should we make and enforce better gun laws to protect those at risk?

Buddy, are you literally stupid? Why would you want to turn a problem (i.e. crazy teenagers shooting people) into an even bigger problem (i.e. crazy teenagers AND crazy teachers shooting people)?

When people talk about Americans being stupid, THIS IS EXACTLY THE SORT OF THING THEY ARE REFERRING TO.

Buddy, are you literally stupid? Why would you want to turn a problem (i.e. crazy teenagers shooting people) into an even bigger problem (i.e. crazy teenagers AND crazy teachers shooting people)?

There you go automatically and falsely assuming things again. I never said what side I was on so I don't see how you have any reason to call me stupid. If you want to participate in this debate, don't call someone stupid especially if they have not chosen a side yet.

That isn't an assumption; it's a fact. If you arm teachers then some of them are going to shoot people. Would you give someone a toaster and then expect them not to make toast with it?

That makes absolutely no difference because your question itself is ridiculous. It's like asking people if global warming is real. You'd have to be an idiot to even ask that question because all the science is one directional. The same applies here, only it isn't science but reason which you are taking a giant dump on.

Maybe you are right but you don't need to be rude about it. I honestly thought that this was a valid question to ask. I have heard this question asked multiple times by the people around me so it was not a ridiculous question. It may be a ridiculous question to you, but not to me. If it is so ridiculous, why did you even decide to say anything in the first place? To point out how ridiculous it was? That's rude in and of itself. The point of these debates is to be friendly. I don't know why you would want to be rude.

Yes, but popularity has no relationship to validity. If you'd have asked people around you a few hundred years ago, they'd have told you the Earth is the centre of the universe and everything else orbits it. The reason you have heard the question multiple times is because, like I have just explained, merely asking it gives it credibility. You create the impression that either side is logically arguable.

I understand. This is not just some junk site to go posting whatever the heck you want. It is a legitimate debate site.

Yeah, the question would be invalid back then because not many people at all thought the other way. It might be the same thing as me.

No, I was wrong, that is not rude. What was rude was the way you came across the first time.

And, even if that is true, then you think it is better to be ridiculous than to be rude?

I don't really care who says what about me unless they are attacking me or it is against my family and friends. I personally do not care if others see me as ridiculous. I have plenty of good friends who see the best in me anyway, so it does not matter. But to answer your question: Both of them can come across badly to others but it really depends on the intensity of the rudeness and the ridiculousness. One can easily be worse than the other, depending on different people or how you show them. An example would be my ridiculousness had a pretty big intensity on you, but not as much on others.
