Yes. I don't consider this an "argument". I've been through it, I know there are situations where it is necessary. Other than that, I think if some idiot feels his "rights" are being taken away by da gubmint when they are asked to wear a mask (for the good of other Americans .... also with "rights" :-), or asked to "keep their distance, then a woman should have her "rights" also! Rights were NOT made exclusively for knuckle draggers!

It should be a last resort OR a necessity, but, STILL A RIGHT ... A CHOICE! That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Abortion is justifiable for several reasons:

Mercy - a fetus that is in pain and will not live.

Selective reductions - from triplets to twins, or twins to a single, etc. - to improve the overall chances for those remaining.

Self-defense - All pregnancies pose a risk to the mother that she has a right to avoid.

-------------------------

There are additional arguments against making abortion illegal:

-------------------------

Ineffectiveness:

"Highly restrictive abortion laws are not associated with lower abortion rates." (ref)

Laws making it harder to get abortions are making them happen later in the gestation, and are more dangerous/costly, etc.

Complexity:

The actual complexity of writing a law that applies for the range of possible circumstances:

Should selective reductions to improve the health of multiples be legal?

Should it be legal to protect the life of the mother? (how certain does the doctor have to be that death is likely?)

Should it be legal to protect the health of the mother? (how do you define "health" - severe organ damage? mental health?)

If a 10 year old is raped by an uncle and becomes pregnant - which is better: having the child or an abortion? Who gets to make the decision?

Should embryonic stem-cells be used for research or in curing diseases?

What about extra fertilized eggs created for in-vitro fertilization?

Would several forms of birth control pills, IUDs, etc. become illegal?

What penalties should be imposed on the woman, the doctor, other people who knew?

Enforcement:

Is it reckless endangerment for child-capable women to consume coffee/soda/tea, sushi/oysters/clams/mussels/crab, several types of fish, homemade ice cream, mayonnaise, lox, steak tartar, pâté, unpasteurized milk, soft cheese, deli meat, etc. etc.? If she has consumed any of these and has a miscarriage, is she guilty of negligent homicide?

Should all miscarriages be investigated as potential abortions/murders?

The cost of investigating all the new potential crimes and jailing of all the new criminals, etc.

Alternatives:

Focusing on education about the responsibilities of sex, using protection, etc. reduces abortions.

An IUD program in Colorado was very successful at reducing both teen pregnancy and abortion rates (ref)

Scarcity:

Are there lots of 9 month pregnant women getting abortions to fit into a dress for a party?

I think it is inhuman to do this. What about the child's choice to live? It can't tell you anything. The baby is not the mother. It is attached but it is not the mother. Life begins at conception. You say it's not a human because it doesn't have all it's body parts yet. What about all of the people who are grown adults and have missing arms, legs, etc.? Are they human? Of course. And what about premature babies? People say that you can have an abortion day before birth because the baby is still not fully human. So if the baby is born before the due date, is it not a human? Of course not. It's the most selfish thing I have ever heard to say because you don't have time to take care of the baby, might as well kill it! Just have the child and put it in foster care or adoption. At least they will have a chance to be someone and make a difference in the world. It's your fault you had sex before marriage and got pregnant. It's not the child's fault. So why must we kill the baby who is innocent?

I think it is inhuman to do this. What about the child's choice to live?

Republicans and Democrats both pretend theirs is the only side to an issue, which usually inhibits any reasonable form of discussion. It's why America is such a ticking bomb. Everything there has been politicised across party lines.

I don't argue that a fetus isn't human, I argue that a woman has a right to self-defense.

People have a right to self-defense against fully grown people who pose them harm even if the risk of harm is not intended (a person with a fake gun, etc.)
