Should adult prostitution be legal?

It works in other countries. Problem is, when it's illegal someone always takes control …. and most of the money … to "protect" the individuals from the law. It's no different from Prohibition when it's deemed illegal.

Don't get mad at me for this, but: Rape culture is when anyone's body even by consent is expected to be community property.

What?

Rape Culture is when causing the hassle of accusing someone of sexual abuse is considered to be more atrocious than doing it and getting away with it, leading to an overall push on silence in the face of abuse as opposed to willingness to 'frame someone for it' (which barely ever happens and is the most bullshit excuse to have rape culture ever).

I agree, if that is the woman's (or man's)wish. If they wish to make money to support themselves this way, that's their choice. That makes their body THEIR property, not the community's. NO body should belong to the "community", or anyone but the "occupier". :-)

An atheist here: no reigious undercurrents.

But even when it's legal, people get exploited.

I don't think legality is the issue (it should be legal). I think our unwillingness to recognize it and legitimize it is the issue. If we don't legitimize it, and have proper safeguards in place, it can be abused.

If it is made legal, it ought to have all the protections of a mainstream profession, and more: employment rights, mental health care, free contraceptives, free STI screening, counselling, paternity protection (for both sexes -- ie. a man can't be held accountable for a child, but a woman should have access to abortion) etc etc.

We are in total agreement. I didn't go into it that deeply. I felt that was obvoious.

Any legislation legalizing prostitution would have to be accompanied with strict regulatory controls on such issues as health checks and any association with criminal elements that may blackmail clients.

This would almost certainly create an underground service were all the existing dangers would continue, if not intensify.

Side: Yes.

I think consenting adults should be able to engage in any legal activity. Sex is legal, the exchange of money for it is what some have a problem with.

I think consenting adults should be able to engage in any legal activity.

So if it were legal for "consenting adults" to touch kids, you'd endorse that would you?

You make me sick. Typical right wing paedophile.

When engaging in sexual acts with a penis and vagina, there is no guarantee whether or not a child may be conceived. A child should not have to grow up in a single parent home with an unknown father figure. Prostitution undermines the value of sex. Without a doubt unwanted child births, sexual diseases and abortions will be on the rise.
