Should choosing your gender be an option?

It's very taboo to discuss this topic however, it's very relevant. Many people are reassigning their gender. In the spirit of free speech, leave the hate, bring the reasons for or against it

BUT, nobody WANTS to choose unless their body and mind tells them they were given the wrong one!

Religious people want to believe their "god" is infallible. Mother Nature, however, does make mistakes.

nonsense. cisgender people want to choose their gender so badly that they can't even tolerate others choosing something different. their insecurity over their choice is the why the rest of us have to put up this bigoted nonsense.

if it is someone's body and mind that informs them that they are transgender, then that is nature telling them that they are transgender. the body and mind are not supernatural. your argument doesn't even make sense within itself. idiot.

gender and sex aren't natural kinds anyways. they're both socially constructed. what constitutes common sense gender has varied across time and culture; third genders have existed for thousands of years in various cultures, for instance. as for sex, the biological sciences recognize numerous sexes outside of the genotypic xx and xy sexes as well as numerous variation of phenotypic sexed expression within the xx and xy genotypes.

seriously, id be embarrassed to be as as wrong as you are. especially since your willful ignorance is so plainly in service to your insecurities aboutyour own imaginary gender and sex. you're honesty too pathetic to even engage again. respond if you want, but i won't be.

cisgender people choose their genders just as much as transgender people do. you're all weirdos for wanting to limit your self understanding and expression with this nonsense, but i can't really be arsed to care about liberating you from your collective delusions.

"debates" like this are the same as theists squabbling over whose sky friends are real. you're all delusional, and most of you are fanatics. it's like watching parrots quote children's story books at each other. i'm not going to pretend that it's substantive or interesting.

How does this show that gender is choice. Your website explains that gender ” refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for boys and men or girls and women. These influence the ways that people act, interact, and feel about themselves“

How can you choose to act or feel one way or another?.

I remember the first time someone asked my gender I said “it depends.” Days I feel like a man. Other days I feel like woman. And it doesn’t feel like a choice...

think it's great supporting people who want to dress and act with freedom but you can't choose to identify as a different gender just because your preferences align with classic appearances.

It's frankly impossible to identify as a sex/gender you have never experienced being. How would anyone know what it feels like to be a woman if they have never in their life been one?

Literally zero knowledge of what that feels like.

There are so many aspects that define women that no amount of surgery or hormones could produce.

I'm all about living your truth but let's not live someone else's truth and call it our own. Maybe a different word for men who want to appear feminine and women masculine.

I don't see how it's beneficial to allow this as some sort of right people have. Its not!

at least have the intestinal fortitude to own your bigotry, asshole. don't pansy about saying it's great to support the liberties of gender non-conforming people when ur position is that we shouldn't.

gender is entirely made up so it's entirely fair game. trans people aren't doing anything that cis people aren't doing. you're all delusional idiots. the insecurity of cis people over their delusions is the only reason we have to have these ridiculous arguments where we pretend that gender is real and that people like you are having reasonable conversations.

"debates" like this are the same as theists squabbling over whose sky friends are real and condoning the violent oppression of people who have the wrong sky friends. you're a violent fanatic, and im not going to pretend otherwise. nor am i going to indulge you any further than i already have.

Is bigotry kept in the intestines? I think that might be sweetcorn.

While I don't think gender is necessarily a choice, I wonder how much social pressure to act a certain way because of gender affects the choices one makes regarding changing it.
