Should cigarettes be illegal?

If the smoker is aware of the consequences smoking cigarettes can have, then I have no problem with them being legal.

However I think the information given on those consequences is far from great. I think people know very little about COPD, which is a lung disease primarily caused by cancer, and also one of the greatest killers in the US.

Sadly all the marketing around it is pointed on children whom simply aren't capable of deciding if they want to became addicted and die because of it or not.

What they see is a "cowboy" with revolver in one hand a cigarette in other.... and that is the primary source of smokers.

You obviously must have never seen a smoking commercial or public signs. You must not have a large brain either if you think that it doesnt affect the kids by even a smudge.

Oh really? Where might I see this cowboy? Might I have some evidence to support your appalling claims?

Yeah, that is what is stupid. We should change that image .

Most people know this, as children you're bombarded with this "every drug (including alcohol and cigarettes) will kill instantly" speech...

People know that smoking kills. But surprisingly '' it kills you'' isn't enough for people to stay away from it.

You should teach them the real consequences, other than death.

One is COPD, which is a syndrome that you can eventually die from, but it also an extremely horrifying disease to live with. It makes your ability to exhale very very weak. You can inhale fine, but the muscles pushing the air out are destroyed. Therefore you will live with this everyday, every minute every time you breathe.

People apparently aren't afraid of dying - but imagine feeling like you're strangled everyday.

People don't know enough about the complications of smoking.

Making something illegal that people have already known as legal, will put them in distress. They may rebel. As was the case with Prohibition.

No, of course not. As long as there is a reliable flow of information about the potential dangers in smoking cigarettes (which there is - all over T.V., billboards, and even directly on the packs), then the smoker knows what he is doing to him/herself.
