Should cops have the right to shoot on sight in this scenario?

If people are rioting should cops be justified to shoot on sight? If so, explain why, if not, explain why and or maybe give an example that would bestow them that right.

Cops are there to maintain (serve and protect) the status quo. ;)

Unless the rioters have guns, and are using them. The police should be better equipped and trained than the rioters though, so I don't see why they would need to use a last resort.

Yea but there are usually hundreds of rioters and only a hand full of police. And if it is a real riot then the civilians will most likely be looting, vandalizing, and trying to hurt the police.

Today, in this time, there is no need for police using live ammunition on civilians rioting. Only when cop's life is in danger should they ever use live ammunition. They could just easily use tear gas to disperse the riot than using live ammunition.

Side: No

I don't think so. Cops can fire rubber bullets to contain the crowd.
