Should drivers have to re-sit their driving test at the age of 75?

This is an issue that I'm researching for a school assignment. People's agility and alertness decreases with age, which somewhat impairs their driving ability. So do you think people should have to redo a driving test at the age of 75. I support this idea because, while they are more responsible than younger drivers, they are at much more risk of accidents and perhaps fatalities.

This is something I have thought about before. I think however that people should have to re-sit their driving tests periodically in order to assess if they are still capable of understanding the rules of the road and the workings of their car.

I have seen some ridiculous driving from people that are not too old to have been slowed by age.

It's politically incorrect. The proper term is 'ageism'.

I'm for it, though, if only because it is politically incorrect...

At so advanced an age one often begins to lose their faculties - smell, hearing, sight, memory - all of which are essential to safe driving.

When it comes to being politically correct, or protecting the safety of other drivers and pedestrians, I think the latter takes precedence.

Also, the assertion that the elderly have a increasingly high likelihood of being dangerous drivers is based on fact rather than prejudice and the desire for public safety rather than the desire to belittle or restrict a demographic. Does that even still count as being politically incorrect?
