CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
Yes! Electronics should be used in our schools! We have all this technology, why not use it! Also using paper us bad for the environment because you have to cut down trees to make it.
it does not have to be dirty energy.... people in what century are you living in? we have come so far that now majority of the world use hydroelectric power the energy is consumed from the water and then the water in reusable..... we have come so far that some electronic devices are environment friendly!! its the way we choose to use it.
There! In the last sentence that you wrote, you wrote and I quote, "its the way we choose to use it." Choice seems to pop up in everything that we do.. Evidence right there..
I never said that the power would necessarily be environmentally unsustainable, but indicated that the majority of energy today still is which is a matter of fact. The majority of the world is not powered by hydroelectricity but by fossil fuels which are currently projected to comprise 80% of the world's energy through 2040 (source).
Also, paper need not come from trees since it could be 100% post consumer recycled product. Yet you notably felt no need for rhetorical condescension towards that debater.
Certain electronics, particularly computers and related processing equipment, are integral in most aspects of day to day life let alone most prospective careers. Being introduced to and familiarized with this technology is its own benefit, but there are also added advantages of access to information, etc.
of course yes! in the fast speeding time of the 21st century technology has helped us achieved things that we couldn't even imagine existed because of technology we has discovered thing beyond extraordinary. If technology is used as an element of fast learning then surely children will take more interest in studies that is why there are science labs so they could experiment for themselves, computer labs so that they could experience everything. I SUPPORT THAT TECHNOLOGY SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN OUR SCHOOLS AS A LEARNING TOOLS
Yes, as if which I am using a Chromebook from District 41 to debate! From my experience with this, I used this Chromebook to do homework, essays, and rough drafts of work! While it could secretly be used for gaming, the games are also secretly educational.
Everyone thinks of HUGE benefits when using a electronic device. BUT, they do not realize that these electronic devices have their disadvantages... READ ON...
Students will find ways behind the system to do things that the school restricts, even though the school may set up things to block these websites, there are always ways around.
I am speaking the truth as I am in a school that uses Macbooks as a learning device. This "learning device" has become more of a problem than actually a GOOD way of learning. It is heavy ( a normal MacBook Pro weighs about 2kg ), there are a lot of distractions. In my school, the school even goes to it's extreme measures to do Macbook raids to check whether the students have any bad things in their laptop. I am speaking the truth and only want you to understand the high number of disadvantages of using a laptop as a learning device.
It is good that your school are rigorous in their checks for appropriate content - they would be irresponsible if they weren’t. Electronic devices do have their disadvantages but then so does everything. As technology continues in its advancement it will naturally trickle into how society functions and part of that would be in teaching methods. So long as electronics do not impede learning ability I do not see any wrong in schools employing them as devices under close monitoring.
Because at present they are outweighed considerably by the advantages. As a result education is now able to expand beyond the confines of traditional learning materials (i.e. books, journals etc.) and they provide an additional arena of support for the completion of research and assignments (i.e. instant up to date information that may be unattainable otherwise). The basic premise for introducing electronic devices is to enhance school operation, not replace it entirely. The only thing is that electronics are prone to malfunction and this is why we as human beings are expected to oversee their performance. For as long as we do that there is no threat posed.
Students not paying attention and finding ways to distract themselves is hardly new. Before computers in the classrooms it was passing notes on paper, etc. If students are determined not to pay attention and learn then they most likely will not, regardless of the medium introduced into the classroom.
It is ALL about choice... But these days students CHOOSE to do the wrong things, yet why do you still want to give them a chance to do something wrong by giving them a electronic device?
Reread my argument; I already explained that students not paying attention is not a "these days" phenomenon or unique to technology. The harm is non-unique to technology where as the benefits of using technology are unique.
Joel, The statement that you made is a bit blurry to me. I always thought that is the way how you use things for example a knife a butcher only uses it to cut meat, where as a murder would use it took harm someone. not all students want to do the wrong things its just about perspective. perspective of all children vary, its the job of their parents and teachers to guide them to the right path and if they do that there is no harm in using technology!!
Yes, it is ALL about choice.. You chose the dispute my argument.. That was choice.. You choose to buy an expensive car when there is another one which is cheaper... It is ALL about choice.. I am choosing to dispute your argument and that is MY choice.. See? In my school, the principal has chosen the have 1:1 learning. It was one of the worst choices.. Almost 80% of the entire school has something illegal or something bad in their laptops. Choice. It is ALL up to you.. Your future does not decide who you are, you decide your future.. Every choice affects what will happen...
