with the way media is today i would definitly recommend that students are not allowed to have a gun licence or not, because if they was to be bully then someone would died either the student being bullied or the bully and considering that if every child had a gun crime and death rates would increase drastically. What makes you think media matters when it comes to violence, especially if a student has a gun license?(ie, is at least 18,passed a background check and has training) Who would fuck with the kid that has a gun? If the 13 killed, and 21 injured during the columbine high school massacre had protection on their hip, there wouldn't be so many injured or dead. Side: no

Do you have another other than Anecdotal evidence? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Perhaps soldiers are lucky in that they get full range to defend themselves, what was the context? Further more, there exists a disconnect between what people say and what they actually are willing to do. I've been around guns since I was little, proper education about them is part of raising a child properly for various reasons. Which I can go into if you really want but it should be obvious, much of it has to do with protection, independence and the right of revolution. Guns are everywhere, knowing how to handle them safely and responsibly, which is typically and should be a requirement of licensing, is a need.
