They should not learn that eating junk food in massive amounts is good, it's what advertisements basically claim. The more you buy the more money they get, to them that is all that matters. But parents are the ones who buy them... so they are the ones who need some serious education.

The more junk food a child eats, the more obese he/she will become. This is actually a good thing because the fatter they become, the less attractive they become for pedophiles, thus we can be sure that fatter children are less likely to be targeted by child molesters.

Once the child is of older age, he/she can start working out and get rid of all the detrimental effects of the junk food he bestowed upon himself at an earlier age.

You're kidding, right?

Children should not factor the potential to get molested into their diets, and they should not incur serious, life-threatening health problems and disorders for the sake of appearance, be it good or bad, but particularly not to avoid child molesters. Firstly because for the perpetrator, molestation is about power, not about looks, and secondly because a very small percentage of the children in the world are ever subject to rape or molestation, and it would be stupid for their parents to degrade their health in a vain attempt to make sure they stay unmolested. Additionally, many of the detrimental effects of being a fatty are lasting, like diabetes, and not something that you can work off.

Also by that logic women in particular should stay obese until at least 35 or so because rape is as substantial a problem as molestation, and one more strongly rooted in appearances.

So every child should become obese to avoid being abused? You do know what child molesters will do if there aren't any "satisfying" children around? They will change their standards and still keep on targeting children. And what if the molester likes them fat and sugary? Being fat is not a solution, in fact it can cause issues (serious issues for a child), physical, mental, and social.

Children should not be taught that eating unhealthily and thus becoming fat is okay. Obesity is a problem, not a solution to some other problems.

Living healthily goes from birth till death (it should anyway, not that it always does). Children are unable to know themselves what is healthy (from lack of necessary knowledge) and so it is the parents' job. That includes ensuring eating healthy and doing physical exercises, not to mention mental requirements. Being fat is not among the aspects of a healthy life.

If you want to deal with child molesters (or any criminals for that matter) you remove them not their victims. To make sure children are never abused again you must investigate and find out why there are child molesters in the first place, and deal with whatever you found out.

They should be banned because junk food isn't healthy for you we should focus more on having children be healthy so that in the future the children's body isn't going to be good because of all the junk food that harm their body. Its best if they advertise healthy foods.

I disagree. "Junk food" should be restricted in certain cases, not banned.

Junk food can be eaten in moderation. It is when people eat too much of it that it it becomes a problem. Knowing this, wouldn't it be silly to ban something because people use it too much? In that case, cars, computers, cellphones and numerous other things should be banned. Educating people is the only way to help them make the best decisions, not by not exposing them to it. Ask a person who does not smoke why the don't smoke. They will not say, "Because it wasn't advertised to me as a child.." they will say, "Because its horrible for your health.." one can only experience that knowledge by being educated about it.

It should be banned in all television program. In fact they should be banned.

If they can't advertise cigarettes, they can't advertise junk food either.

There are much more people dying from obesity than from cigarettes.

I disagree. The parents are essentially responsible for educating the child about a healthy lifestyle, not the TV. If a child is getting his/her values and ideas from the TV, then parents are simply not doing their jobs.

Junk food adverts are not detrimental as long as the parents are willing to explain to the child, why he should not eat junk food.

No,not really. You see, instead you could just skip the commercial. But,parents most of the time don't buy the stuff their kids see on t.v. Basically,if there wasn't any of those commercials, how could you go shopping, with kids wanting to go everywhere when they see something new? So it's better to leave It there

As a species, we've evolved specific ways in which we learn the best ways to succeed in the world, and advertisers have spent millions of dollars studying how that works and what are the best ways to tap into that. For example, one way people learn is to look at the behavior of someone they admire, or a type of person they admire, and adopt that persons behavior. Advertisers who use popular celebrities to promote their products tap into that mechanism. It doesn't have to be a specific person either, it can just be someone who exhibits characteristics that you admire, like having a beautiful girl hanging on them, being well dressed or looking good, etc. One example of this is the Mountain Dew commercials that show kids riding mountain bikes over cool terrain and doing tricks, and then drinking a Mountain Dew, or the old Marlborough Man commercials. These types of commercials are too effective and subconsciously override our best attempts to use good judgment when choosing stuff to buy.

Personally, I don't think certain products should be banned from being advertised to children or adults, but I do think that the types of techniques used in advertising should be controlled for both children and adults. The basic biological ways that people learn and develop should be protected from exploitation through advertising so that people can develop more naturally.

america is a capitalist country, 99% of the population makes money from selling goods and services. there are healthy food choices out there, but those companies arent making as much money as junk food/fast food companies because THE PEOPLE CHOOSE TO BUY JUNK FOOD/FAST FOOD.

I think they don't need to put all blames to few businesses. They maybe junk food, but imagine how many employee working there in the factory not including those who promote and markets through several medium of advertising. This is how they market, if they don't have any advertisement, come to think of it, those employee might don't have jobs, might the economy is low because no manufacturer is paying taxes. They don't need to ban, the advertisement are not the one responsible for every kids because of the junk food advertisement. It is a sole responsibility of a guardian or parents whether their kids can adapt to what is being advertised. Businesses and other name compan will surely disagree on this matter.

Kids love junk food and it is not going to harm them. They will get ideas on what to tell Mommy to get them at the supermarket.
