Should mirror punishment be used in today's society?
I know sometimes some crimes are either intensified or played down a little. Should we just have a system that only uses mirror punishment?

Why steal from a thief? That's not justice. If anything is to be taken though, why shouldn't it just be what was stolen rather than parts equaling what was stolen? You say 'to steal something from the thief that is equal or near equal in value' but what about non quantifiable value? Like the value of sentiment? Or a more common reason for making the price of something increase, an item's historical value? What do you take from a person who steals an ancient artifact. To be perfectly honest all of these questions are rhetorical, and the point I am trying to make from them is that there is a major flaw with mirror punishment. Side: Yes

You can't mirror a killer's crime. They leave at least one dead body, but at least one other living victim suffering the loss of the dead body. You can't equally mirror the crime of a thief. At best you give back what the thief took, but that's not really a punishment as much as it is making amends. Or say the thief steals food, would you take their stool? Side: No
