Should obese children be taken away from their parents?

The numbers are rising fast for children who are obese in the US and there are talks about have child services remove these children from their home and try and help them fight obesity. Do you agree with this? please explain

Yes they should

No, they shouldn't

Side Score: 34

So you would trade obesity for emotional trauma? Smart .

Side: Stupid Question

I can only imagine the accompanying slogan...

Well, at least they're not fat!

^Not even a guarantee.

Plus, why punish the kid for what is probably the parent's problem?

Yes, but only when proven that the parents are putting their children in danger.

Nobody has the right to take someones children away. Unless there are some serious problems in the household.

No.. Not take them away. That will never be a good solution. They need to stay with their folks to be able to fight what they cannot stop. The family love and support is Important.

I agree to an extent, the child does need love and support but what if that family is not providing the support the child needs? For example letting the child eat as much as he/she wants and whatever food they want. that is definetely not going to help the child overcome the over weight problem.

It's a really tricky situation

One of my pet hates is obese parents with obese children because you know the majority of the time they are just feeding them the same crap that they eat. If I give my daughter cigarettes and let her smoke it would be child abuse. Why is it different for obesity when parents are encouraging their children indulge in such an unhealthy lifestyle. At that age the child cannot make their own lifestyle choices because they're so easily influenced and have no control over their parents decisions. Perhaps the parents should be told to improve diet/lose weight and help their children do the same. If they fail to take action and ignore these warnings then for a period of time until the parents change they should be separated.

Side: No, they shouldn't

I don't think they should taken away from their parents. I think obese people in general should be banned from bad foods until they loose weight. The longer they eat those foods the higher the risk of them having a heart attack of some sort.

Side: No just the bad foods and sweets

Well I think that what they should do is have more classes where people can go in and learn about obesity and how to control it and lose weight. Also there needs to be places these people can go in and work out even if they don't have insurance to cover it all.

size matters but not THAT much!

No, fat kids should not be removed from their homes.

Side: No, they shouldn't

This is an absurd suggestion. Who is going to take them away? Government. That would be a bigger mistake.

Yes this is what was announced this morning on the news. They are trying to come up with a way to have ACS come in and take children who are obese away from the parents.

Side: No, they shouldn't

The busybodies just have no end to their desired control.

Side: No, they shouldn't

I understand why they are doing it. When i think about it instantly, it does sound reasonable. But when you go deeper in, it sounds ridiculous to the point it is funny. I think it is also wrong. So my answer is no.

Side: No, they shouldn't

Another reason for the government to stick their nose in our business, no way. They have no right to take a child from its parents. I wonder how many of those who would be removing the kids....might be overweight?

Parents can do more damage yelling and demeaning kids than food ever could.

I'm sorry but I'd rather be disciplined appropriately than have my mother convince me from the the beginning of time that eating junk food is what I must become accustomed to. I wouldn't expect any form of encouragement or influence toward something so damaging. If I encourage my child to drink alcohol or smoke it'd be a different outcome. Why is it different for obesity that causes just as much damage?

We are talking about taking kids away from their parents....I mean come on. Look at the abuses going on in the world and you want to focus on eating? Sure kids should eat healthy...but to take them away from their parents. Food does not kill anyone going down the highway. How many deaths on the road are caused by people who just had a Big Mac, fries and shake? You are the one who said....wonderful drug and now you say kids should be taken away from parents who don't feed them right. Who are you or anyone else to say how parents should raise their kids?

Side: No, they shouldn't
1 point

No that is just a stupid idea. The kid would get depressed and just stuff his face with potatoe chips and chocolate. They should be made to run there fat arse's round the block for every ounce of food they chow down. Its not the parents, its how much food they consume and how little excercise they dont do.

Should anorexic children be taken away from their parents?

Side: No, they shouldn't

No. Government can takes everything from everyone already. But not an obese child. No way in hell. They help out and ban them from goods. Simple.
