Should our youth be more politically educated?
Should our youth know whats going on in the world? Or would that only worry them too much?
Yes, I am 12 years old and my school teaches a good deal of politics. For instance, within 30 yrs China will have consumed the rest of the earth's natural resources. (If we don't do something). That is important to know because I do not want to be 42 and have the world go into turmoil. Side: yes

Political education is essential if you want to improve the world. Political systems are at the root of how societies function. To improve societies, we need to improve their political systems. Being well educated in these systems will not only make you more informed adults and voters, it will make you better prepared to change the world for the better. If some youths can't take it and commit suicides, then we'll have rid ourselves of the weaker genes... social Darwinism ;) Side: Absolument

Political education is vital to a child's development, because sooner or later they are going to need to know who is running things in the world, and how to act accordingly. They need to know about people like Adolf Hitler; he was a great leader but very insane. If, say, Australia was led by a similar leader to Hitler within the next 30 years, what would change? And how will our children understand this change? China is another big example; within 30 years China is going to become a very big problem, and we can't just ship off all the decisions to our children in one go. By educating children early on about the political world, we can act alongside them sooner, and therefore, prevent any possible crisis, such as China's consumption of natural resources (as was discussed in another post). We don't necessarily have to cut down on any big subjects such as Mathematics or English, we just need to promote a greater awareness of politics within our schools and at home. Sit down your child every once in a while and talk about some political leaders in the world (without getting too technical too quick), or encourage your school to promote a greater awareness of politics of your country and of others. It doesn't take a lot of effort, but it will probably make a big difference. Side: Absolument

Yeah. You're right. I shouldn't be so heartless, but I still don't think we should stop teaching people about politics because of suicide. How many people actually commit suicide per year because they feel overwhelmed by learning about politics? It's not a strong argument. Side: Absolument

you always need to ask yourself, what is the agenda of your school. A good temperture to take is to ask, "what is the received opinion (?) on such and such." The more defensive they are the more wrong they probably are. For over a hundred years there have been those who say we are going to run out of resourses. We have always found more. But to think it out surely we must run out of resources at some point. Space. As a human race we must reach out to space and mine the resources we need on the planets in our solar system and beyond. Sadly, our current President, Obama, has cut back on NASA funding. Side: yes

YES our youth should be more politically educated. I mean if the youth are more politically educated then when they vote they actually understand who or what they are voting for. ITS COMMON SENSE! I mean if you add past wars to this most teens don't even know about the World Wars! Its just so insane! Side: yes
Yes, democratic systems of government tend to work best when there is an educated populace. If one is educated they are less likely to fall into the sound-bite traps that the media likes to use; it will force politicians to campaign on real policy and ideas. This will in itself increase the viability of America; which I think we can all agree is a good thing. Side: yes
