I'm not allowed to have one until they decide that I'm ready for marriage. But, I don't think parents should have such barriers. People learn after making mistakes, once they know that the kinda guy like this is not for them, they'll know what to do the next time. They must guide them into a safer relationship but not deny. That is wrong! Side: Parents should allow.

My mum has always been very open with me about sex and relationships from a young age, meaning that when i met someone who i thought was special last year, mum was more than happy for him to come round to my house and to let me see him. Now, some of mums friends call her naive, saying that her being so okay with it could lead to me getting pregnant or similar situations. I believe that if my mum had said no to me being in a relationship, i would have rebelled and done things in spite. I think her allowing me to be in that relationship builds trust and I was aware that if she said no to something, it was for my own good. My mum says she will always be okay with me being in a relationships with the opposite gender, because it is a serious part of growing up and as long as she knows I'm safe, its fine. Parents should always be open to the fact that kids grow up, and being with the opposite gender is just a part of it. Side: Parents should allow.

I think your mother is a very wise parent, my Wife's mother is the same and as a result my Wife has far less hang ups than I do (My mother is a serious Roman Catholic), I think being fair and open as a parent leads to a fair and open child as we learn by mimicry. Side: Parents should allow.

A part of life that is more important than education is happiness, an academic life is not for everyone. Denying a teenager relationships with members of the opposite sex is denying them their natural biological rights. There is no happy life through just academic pursuits. Side: Parents should allow.
