As with most areas of a child's life, the parents should have the right to interfere.

But whether or not they should actually do it will depend on various circumstances like the age of the child, the amount of time they're spending with friends, what they're doing, etc.

First of all, how old are these kids?

But I think that yes, they should be able to limit the amount of time spent with friends. I wasn't allowed to hang out all day long with them. You have to spend time with your family, like it or not. It'll make a better person out of you, having a good family life. No one wants a boyfriend/girlfriend who screams and disrespects their parents. It's just plain embarrasing and childish.

So?

You have to spend time with your family, like it or not.

Why should one have to spend time with people one doesn't like or want to spend time with?

It'll make a better person out of you, having a good family life.

Spending more time with one's family does not equate to a good family life.

No one wants a boyfriend/girlfriend who screams and disrespects their parents.

That would likely be the product of severe metal instability, not an active social life (though of course that depends upon the class of friends one entertains).

You're probably one of those kids who thinks they should have everything handed to them, right? Or you were? Or you just don't know what the term "shut up, suck it up and deal with it" means?

Often the more time you spend talking with someone the more you will understand and if not like at least respect. YOu have to spend time with your family because they at least your parents feed and clothe you. Honor your mother and father. Love your brother.

I think that parents have a right to limit the amount of time their children spends with friends but i also thinks it really depends on what kind of friends they are hanging out with. What some of us forgets sometimes, is the fact that many children are depressed in their homes due to lack of socialization and if that is absent in home, then a child will likely to turn to others for socialization to counter their inner feelings of depression. Before parents limit the time their children spends with friends, they should also look and take into consideration the frequency with qhich they socialize with their children in home.

It's not like parents are not allowing their children to hang out with their friends at ALL, it's just that come 9-10pm, maybe you should come home. I'm sure a kid isn't going to be depressed because he can't spend 12 hours a day with his friends. Nobody does that except maybe the homeless.. given that they have nothing else to do.

If parents had no fault in their discipline methods, then why do you think many family and juvenile courts were created to protect the rights of juveniles and children? I have read many cases with parents, teaching their children to avoid having friends at all thereby causing them to develop an early onset of anti social behavior which is one of the risk factor leading to criminality and delinquincy. You are right, NOT ALL PARENTS ARE LIKE THAT BUT A LARGE PROPORTION OF THEM ARE LIKE THAT.

Of course! It's time parents start spending more time being parents and not friends of absent.

Side: Yes they should

Yes they should. A child should be able to spend time with his/her friend, but there is a point at which he/she is spending too much time. If the child isn't able to finish homework and basic chores, then he/she may need to spend a little less time with friends.

Side: Yes they should

Children have to have time alone with the family especially during Holidays.

I think that kids should be allowed to go to there friends house when ever they want. But i also think that they should have to finish there chores or homework or what ever they do first. This way you child dose what there suppose to do and have time to socialize. As long as they have permission

So the child should be able to go to his/her friend's house at 12 or 1am because they "feel like it?"

Side: Yes they should

Well that really depends on what that child is doing. If the child is doing their homework and not behaving badly or weird then there is no harm in letting them go to a friends house everyday. But keeping in mind that there are still rules.

No, because..being with friends will help with social skills when older. Most jobs these days, you need to have good social skills. & just the fact that friends help you cheer up when needed. :)

Yea and we adults work 9-5, pay bills, clean house, make dinner. Wow oh my gosh you have to go to school, sit in a classroom and learn some stuff.. oh and do your homework and take a few tests. For crying out loud suck it up so do the rest of us! Do you not think that most adults have already gone through what you're supposedly having such a hard time dealing with? Do you realize how idiotic that comment is? Your problems are so miniscule, you can't even begin to understand.
