Should physical education be mandatory in schools k-12?

Yes

Yes, working out, running around, etc stimulates the other part of the brain (frontal cortex or something). The smartest kids in the class are the ones who are well rounded. Also, child obesity is getting to be a problem, PE helps to slim them down a bit.

The smartest kid in my class has never been a fat person.

some kids are better at academics, some better at sport, why waste a football players time teaching him rocket science, or a mathematicians time by making him do push ups.

I am disputing for one reason. Academics are necessary out in the real world, and thusly should be taught to everyone it should not be a choice. However as you stated, not everyone is going to be or wants to be a professional athlete. It should be based on choice.

Physical educations are a good thing, and child obesity is becoming a growing problem. However, i don't think mandatory physical education classes are the answer to this problem. Usually, by high school, physical education classes are a joke class where nothing happens anyways. Why trap the kids who actually want to learn stuff in a poorly carried out "phys ed" class that does no good in the first place?

We need a change in our core education way of teaching physical activity rather than graded performance

Side: No

There are many students who don't like Gym class, so, it should only be elective.
