Should religious symbols be displayed on public property?

Should religious symbols be displayed on public property? Especially for holidays.

I think they should if the person who owns the building and wants to put up something that resembles or points out to Christmas and Christians I think its ok. But if the person just puts it there and doesn't ask to put it on public property then no.

So, only if it is a Christian symbol, it is OK to be displayed on public property?

I think that the term "public property" refers to tax-funded, government-owned property (if in doubt, message the creator of the debate). Thus, the properties in question, in this debate, does not refer to a property owned by someone, but by the government. In a secular society, this should not be allowed as a secular government should not favour or even display support for one religion or religious group over another, regardless of the politicians' own personal religious convictions.

However, I do agree with you that if the person owns the building and wants to put up religious symbols, we do not have the right to complain at all.

Side: No

I think people should be able to express their beliefs, and this is also stated in the first amendment of the constitution.

On their own property sure, and in what they say and do, I'd never deny anyone that, the point is that public ie government owned land needs to be kept secular, this is for everyone's benefit, not just the Atheist's.

I think everyone deserves to share their beliefs anywhere they please.

Umm where is the offence? If you don't show superiority of a religion above another then sure why not? But it depends what buildings you are talking about. If it is a mall then who cares? You might see the cross in the US or the Crescent and Star in UAE. So long you give the same right for other religious symbols to exist.

On the stipulation that symbols from most or all religions are displayed, and that the people are given a chance for a majority vote.

If by public property you mean government "tax payer-funded" property, then my answer would be no. If tax payer money is involved, or government property is involved then the U.S.government cannot be seen as endorsing one religion of the others. Do what you want with your own time and money but leave my tax dollars out of it.

Side: No

As with what Bohemian stated; if it is on tax payers public property then I don't want to see that stupid shit anywhere near it.

Not on public property, but on private property sure. I don't really care in all honesty as long it stays off my property... Which I don't have X) But you get the point.

Side: No

Because if one religion is allowed, then the remaining religions will want to do so. It would then become a chaotic situation.
