It is legal to NOT follow religious doctrine. It is (for the immediate future ;-), a "free country". It is a "Constitutional Republic" with a Constitution that spells out, fairly clearly, what is legal. We have a SCOTUS that is supposed to decide legality in a democratic way, and, as the Constitution points out NOT in a religious way. We are as close to an authoritarian takeover as we have ever been. If that happens you (we) will lose that freedom, and others. So, for now, it should be legal. If the people vote for authoritarianism (todays conservatism/nationalism, we will lose a LOT of freedoms …….. including the Second Amendment! There are NO authoritarian countries where free people are allowed to own guns or make choices that the authoritarians don't like or feel safe with. So, the "choice" is up to U.S. … for now. :-/ Side: Yes.

No, these relationships cannot be constituted into a marriage. The purpose of marriage is to provide the proper environment for child bearing and rearing. Love is NOT the purpose of marriage, people can love their pets, their trees and their same sex partners... with the same intensity as they can love their other sex partners, but a world where this alternative relationships are called marriage is an stupid one.
