Should schools teach a new universal language in addition to their current language?

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to travel to any country in the world and be able to talk to the people without having to learn a different language for each country?  I propose we create a new universal language that is very easy to learn because it has very strict rules.

RULES

  1. Each letter or letter combination can only have one sound.
  2. There are no silent letters.  Anyone attempting to make a word with them will be shot.
  3. There can only be one word per definition. If you want to write poetic stuff you can use a different language. This one is meant solely for clear communication and ease of learning.
  4. There are no exceptions to the rules. No I before E except after C crap.

To avoid having to create new keyboards we can use the english alphabet since that is the predominant one in the world, but some of the letters would be used differently.  Letters that currently have multiple sounds would need to be combined with other letters to produce the different sounds.  For example, the A sound in "Ape" would be spelled AI. The A sound in "All" would be spelled AH.  The default sound of the letter A would sound like it does in the "Apple".

What do you think?  Good idea, bad idea?
What additional rules would you add?
What rules would you tweak or remove?

If there was a universal language it would increase tolerance for other people in the future.

It could be taught in the wake of another language credit. For example instead of 2 mandatory credits of another world language, 2 mandatory credits of our new universal language.

One of the biggest things that divide people isn't religion. You can hide that, and it isn't race because we can over look that. it must be language. To look at a person of a different color with opposing religious views and understand nothing they say could cause some deep resentment but that could easily be cleared up if we understood one another.

Side: Yes they should

I'd remove the shootings rule. People's who are unwilling to change will simply fall to the backside of society as a result of their ignorance when the world progresses with it's new language.

Side: Yes they should

I think a universal language would be pragmatic and the schools all over the world should offer to teach a universal language.

Languages were made so that one army could speak orders without the other understanding.

There will be no way to win a war if they don't stay separate.

Side: No they should not

Nah.. I understand how annoying and frustrating it can be having to learn a new language for every country you're in, but it creates diversity. Who wants a world where everyone's the same? :/
