Should sex between minors the same age be illegal?
The age of consent is 18 & having sex under that age is illegal. Whether it's with someone over the age of consent or if they're the same age as you.
Illegal means if you do it then the police will arrest you or do something else horrible.
Example: A 14 year old boy & a 14 year old girl are dating & really love each other. They go home & do stuff like making out, taking their clothes off, having sex, & sleeping naked together. Should the government interfere with that? Should the police arrest them & have them charged with having sex while under the age of consent? Should their parents/guardians take the punishment for not watching them like a hawk 24/7?
The good side (No leave them alone) doesn't mean that you think it's okay or that you support it. You can be a religious anti-sexual who thinks it's evil but you live by the quote "I may disagree with how you live but I will fight for your right to live that way" & decide that even though you are against it you do think that it is not the government's buisness. The good side means you think that underage sex shouldn't be a legal issue. Just a personal issue.
I Evan Gragg do think it's okay for consenting minors to have sex. I am 16 & if I had a girlfriend I would do that stuff with her.
The bad side (Yes arrest those fuckers!) doesn't mean you just think it's wrong. It means you actually believe the police should arrest them & charge them with underage sex. No as long as they are the same age i dont see the problem with it and plus it's not like theres sexual abuse going on and if a screw up happens and the girl gets pregnant it's their fault.
No. A paedophile is a grown man who loves little kids. If they both consent to sex then it is not rape. However the laws differ in their definition of rape but under 13 generally tends to be rape. In the same way that minors are being 'discriminated against' so are paedophilic relationships. Same goes to zoophiles.

Surely the trick is to educate young people efficiently so that they can defend themselves against the world rather than relying on laws to wash over a problem? The fact is that though there are rules, people break them. It happens all the time, everywhere, through all humanity and its varied environments. Just writing it off saying 'well it's illegal so they shouldn't do it' isn't helping anyone to deal with the potential repercussions of what is, essentially, a private thing between two people that we are naturally predisposed to do.
Young people need to be encouraged to take pride in themselves and take care of themselves, whether that's learning to make informed decisions about who they sleep with to knowing about protection and where they can go and who they can talk to if things do go wrong.

I say no it should not be illegal, but that does not change the fact that too many kids are way too young to be engaging in sex acts. I personally think that having sex at a young age will lead to having more partners, more stds, more pregnancy, more stupidity selfishness and regret.

I think this is absolutely ludicrous, as a 13-14 year old male, of course i know which side i am on in this debate, but, i understand the governments decision to illegalise underage sex. Why? To stop underage pregnancies and therefore teen parents, this could be avoided and it isn't. Because dumbarse dodos cant afford a condom or are just too thick to think of wearing one. What has happened now is that teenage girls are left with sexual tension, and are totally frigid. WEAR A FUCKIN CONDOM, then it will be legal.

In my opinion, actually maybe yes. In reality, no. That's just stupid. Of course it might be wrong morally or legally or what ever varying on state, but who REALLY gives a? If they minor gets the other one pregnant, it's their choice to do what ever with the child. Abortion, disowning, adoption... It's their problem, their choices. if two people have been together for a while and feel completely comfortable then why shouldn't it be allowed? weather you are 15 or 45 you could rush into sex and regret it later on in life. i think alot of people don't respect teenagers to make there own choice's after all if they know the problems that this may cause and about staying safe then there should be no law against it also the law understands that underage sex is going to happen weather its legal or not thats why they provide kids with the choice on contraception and sex education so young so its a bit of a pointless law.

Some people think we are not old enough to make these "important decisions". We young people are human beings with working brains. The reason why there are so many std cases and teen pregnancies out there is because the very people against this are either too lazy, ignorant, and/or selfish to actually sit down, educate us about it, and make sex protection easily available in locations where we wouldn't find too embarrassing to visit. (Like a vending machine if you needed to sell them).
And if they decide to not protect themselves, and they get pregnant or get STD it's their fault, and they should have to suffer the consequences.
Some of them also don't realize that this "nobody under 18 (or 16) can have sex law" can contribute to depression, or low self esteem, like if the cops actually do arrest the male in the relationship for sex, and it was not rape and they both love each other.
However, in my opinion, the current age of consent laws should be replaced, with a more, anti-ageist approach:
1. The base of this law would be section based. There is a lower age section (13 - 17) and a higher age section(18 +). There also is a small combination in the middle for cases like a couple where the male is 17 and the female is 16 and the male turns 18 while the female remains 16 (16-19).
2.Nobody will be able to legally have sex with people in different age groups. (This prevents adult on minor abuse, which will still be illegal.)(EX. A 13 year old can have sex with a 17 year old, but can't have sex with anyone older.)
3.Because of either undetailed sex education or biased education("No sex until marriage." Done.) There should be a license for the minor group to have sex, to show that they have basic knowledge about it, and getting assurance that they really want to risk all the risks. These could be taken at schools, doctor's offices, or special sex clinics.
I believe that there are similar age of consent laws like this in Japan(minus the license) (The only place I know of) and they have some of the LOWEST teen pregnancy rates in the world. (SOURCE: http://www.unicef.org/pon96/inbirth.htm,) ) of course they may also have other moral values that contribute to this, but still, lowest.
I think its pathetic that the gov. should get involoved in sex lives. Just because its a law doesnt mean we wont break it, and teen pregnancy rates have probably gotten worse. Im 14, im completely in love with my boyfriend and i would do it wether the goverment said not to. They think they need to make laws just so police actually have something to do, and its pathetic. Every teenager has sex before 18. When it comes to debates like this, we should all remember what Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau said, “The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation.” Despite the fact that I am 15, what I do with my body, and with whom I do it, should not be my government’s concern. Now yes, I go to the extent of saying that I don’t think people should be have premarital sex, however, what people do in private is not my nor anyone else’s concern.
Actually the age is 18 only in some places, it's 16 in most states and 16 or under in most countries. But, to answer the question, consensual sex should never be against the law (if sending nude pics). Don't give me any nonsense that teens can't consent, that is simply a not true. I know I was fully aware as a teen and would never feel anyone had the right to make that choice as to whenI could have sex for me. Those consent laws do much more harm than good, criminalizing teens isn't protecting them.
Sex between / with minors has been made an illegal act by the society for very good reasons.. Sex is an important decision, and may have undesirable consequences in the long run for the minors and need the maturity of an adult for their own good.

Give girls more credit. And, for that matter, give guys more credit. Yes, a lot of teens have meaningless, bad sex- and so do adults. Many teens can have consensual (your description sounds like rape), safe, pleasurable sex- and, just so you know, for most of human history, teens were considered adults and procreated like adults.
Not all teenage guys are violent sexual fiends, just like not all teenage girls are innocent flowers waiting to be corrupted. This ideology enforces Victorian ideas about sexuality that are unrealistic and oppressive- for both males and females.
I'm sorry if you had a bad experience, and I'm not trying to be insensitive to whatever makes you have a reaction so strongly and with such terrible grammar. However, I think it's important to say that most teenage sex isn't violent or forced- yes, it does happen, and when it does it's unfortunate, but there's more to sex than "shoving a dick into her vagina"- most teenagers could tell you that.
Saying that young men don't have self control only excuses inexcusable behavior, while treating young women like docile lambs only sets them up to be victimized. All parties need to be held responsible for their roles in sexual practices, and young people need education- young people (male AND female) need to be empowered to say "no" and back it up- and understand that "no means no". Saying that teens are somehow underdeveloped or out of control of their behaviors doesn't help anyone.

You have to think about why this law would be created in the first place. Anything to try and cut down on the number of teen pregnancies and STDs I'm all for. There are good intentions behind this law even if it is hard to enforce. Teens make very stupid and immature choices all the time. Billions of dollars are spent every year on costs related to teen pregnancy. The only way i can see this really being enforced is if the parents were to press charges. Still I'm sure many minors would think twice about having sex if they knew jail was a possibility. I know if it was my daughter and the guy was trying to skip out I'd press charges in a heartbeat. No matter how much you guys argue against this law it's still in place in many places, so deal with it fuckers!
I'm not sure arresting would be appropriate, it isn't going to help anyone, however by the same token, you are obviously immature and have no grasp on the consequences of your actions. This is why ages were set for consent. If your minor girl friend gets pregnant, are you willing to marry her, and without a high school education supporting her and the baby is going to be tough. Your job qualifications are manual labor, the cost of having a baby easily exceeds $5000 these days. Most areas of the country rent exceeds $600/month, not to mention utilities, etc., etc. Many grown up and responsible adults are struggling to meet their needs, even some of those with an education. If you are willing to marry her, then get approval from both parents, yours and hers and marry the girl, then you are not doing anything illegal. Let's ask you a question, if you were to get married and the girl you were marrying refused to have sex until marriage, would you trust her more or less than a girl who wanted to hit the sack with you on the first date? If the answer you give is the same as or less, then you obviously have some growing up to do. Your actions have consequences that you have obviously not thought through. If you do indeed have sex out of marriage, especially as a minor still in school, (assuming you have not dropped out), then your immaturity is obvious and is exactly why you should not be having sex, and you are the reason why an age of consent is in place, and some people are not mature even at the age of 18, 25, even 35, but most at these ages have graduated and will live with the consequences of their actions, but at least they can get a job and try to support their decisions.
If the age of consent law says that a person under the age of 18 doesn't have the maturity or emotional security to have sexually intercourse then yes it should be illegal. The parents should have the right to press charges on the fact. There shouldn't be any gray area with the law, it's a yes or a no.
There is a legal age limit for a reason. People often regret decisions they made rather hastily as a teenager. Also, teen pregnancy is currently a huge issue. If you make it OK to have sex underage this problem will only get worse. Teen pregnancy is also proof that many underage are not ready to make a responsible choice.

Actually, when they get pregnant and use the governments resources, they are hurting me. They are also hurting themselves by engaging in an activity they do not have the maturity to be engaging in.
If a middle aged woman gets pregnant, she is old enough to deal with the consequences. Also, she would not have to drop out of school to raise this child. Which affects our national education rate.
Also, you think that the only effect of sex is physical? There are many mental effects to sex as well. Both positive and negative. Especially, when the said party is not old enough, or mature enough to understand the consequences already mentioned.
