Should shariah law be abolished?

Religion and government should be separate.

I would say any and all religious law, hell, religion in general needs to die and go away entirely. That being say we dont really have a say over what happens in other countries. But i do know that there are little sharia councils and consultation centers in the US. They have zero legal authority, but they need to be shut down. The problem is that these councils can pop up in peoples private homes. Theyre informal. So its really impossible to get rid of all of them.

What happened to this being a debate about Shariah law? Are you implying that all religions are equal in moral justification to Islamic law?

No? Sharia is backwards garbage. But how do you abolish a religious law? You cant. You can only abolish it when its put into practice. And how its put into practice is through these courts.

It can't be abolished because it isn't a part of our legal system in the United States. Nevertheless, measures to stop it should be put in place.

It's snuck its way into certain parts of laws in Europe, like multiple marriages, the legal age of consent, and Shariah courts on matters of marriage, so yeah.

I dare say there's a difference between the right to Free Speech and a legal system which mandates stoning to death homosexuals, women who've engaged in sexual activity (voluntary or not) outside of strict patriarchal customs, gypsies, and other "deviants", not to mention amputations as punishment for some crimes.

Hello L:

The question ISN'T whether I LIKE sharia law.. It's whether it should be abolished. We don't practice shariah law in this country, so on my list of things that SHOULD be abolished, sharia law is WAY down there...

But, I'm not sure if I'd hold up right wing views as those that would PROTECT gays, gypsies, and other deviants.. Oh, I know.. You don't wanna KILL the gays, but you SURLY don't want 'em to get married.
