Qualified teachers should be required to carry [CCW] , in case some moron decides to bring his parent's weapons to school and starts shooting. At least this will reduce the number of victims, if that teacher is qualified at the police shooting ranges. It will only need two teachers who are willing and are not wussies. Does anyone recall the Columbine incident? If even one teacher/staff member had been armed (and knew what they were doing) it could have saved a lot of lives. And if they are authorized to carry a gun (I'm assuming the teacher would have a concealed carry permit) why would it be so scary to have them in a school? There are millions of people in the US who carry concealed handguns everyday. Why aren't they going on shooting rampages all the time? Because in general, the vast majority of people know better than to outright attack someone. I believe the same is true of teachers/staff members. This is not to say that they should be FORCED to carry a weapon if they don't want to. Side: Heck yes they should
Do you dismiss the possibility that a delinquent or emotionally unstable child may obtain that weapon? Or that the teacher himself/herself is emotionally unstable? That stray bullets may strike a child? You must remember that the columbine incident was an exceedingly rare occurrence. Side: Yea.. Thas a negative

When a person applies for a concealed weapons permit, they must undergo training on the safety and correct handling of their firearm. If the overseeing officer decides that the applicant is not able to handle the gun correctly or or if they think they are going to do something stupid with it, the applicant will be denied. The teacher will also have great motivation to keep it out of reach for obvious reasons. I won't say it's impossible, but I would say it's extremely unlikely. And if the teacher is deranged enough to shoot children, I don't think they will care if guns are allowed on campus or not. Side: Heck yes they should

A dispute for ricedaragh I dont think it would be a very good motivation when your scared that your teacher could shoot you where you sit. I dont think guns should be allowed into school property, so forget teachers, they are supposed to be setting an EXAMPLE, what type of example is carrying a gun around, besides unless the teacher carrys around the gun 24/7 it can and will get stolen, and students can get pretty messed up. I don't think teachers should actually carry guns on them but neither should guns be totally inaccessible to them. Maybe we should look for a compromise between the two extremes. I think that there should be a gun in each classroom in states that legalise the use of guns. However, the guns should be kept under security( eg. with the use of PIN numbers) which will only be used in times of emergencies (eg. school shoot-outs). The access will only be permitted by the school principals. In this way, teachers who may be mentally unstable would not be able to use them so freely for their own ill intents (eg threatening/ killing students). Side: Heck yes they should

I'm currently subbing in the public school system here in Indianapolis. I have to tolerate a bunch of bullshit for half or full days, and a lot of that bullshit comes from Black kids (not the band) (particularly the boys). They look at me like I'm some kind of fucking alien - a degreed, black man. One kid had the nerve to call me lame because I spoke good English and challenged him to do better in school. He then went on a tirade about how he was a man and blah, blah, blah. Ten years of that... if you gave me a gun in class, I'd only end up using it and get arrested over... bullshit. And I'm pretty sure a whole bunch of teachers who are reaching those tenure years have suffered a whole bunch of bullshit that I can't even imagine right now, and would be pretty ready to massage that trigger and kill some kids. I'm not joking man. Educators get a horrible rap from all angles all day. It's annoying and frustrating as hell. Side: Yea.. Thas a negative
I was going to type up a whole argument for how schools equipped with gun-toting teachers would stop these child shooters dead in their tracks, but you reminded me of a good point. Children in their teenage years are noisy and annoying as hell. Now I remember why I avoided them like the plague in highschool. Side: Yea.. Thas a negative
no way. guns are freaky, and what if the teacher is insane, or bipolar, or something terrible? what if a student steals the gun, shoots the teacher, then everyone else? what if the teacher uses it for intimidation of the students? what if what if what if?????????? Side: Yea.. Thas a negative
Those are a lot of what ifs. What if a parent attacks the teacher? What if an escaped prisoner of an asylum escaped, broke into the school via a fire escape, was brandishing an Indiana Jones whip and went for a teacher? ^ See what ifs can really get crazy ^ Teachers deserve protection just as much as anybody else. Side: Heck yes they should
Guns add emotional stress to the students. Imagine, whenever you misbehave during lesson time, the teachers can shoot you. How is a student going to pay attention in class under such a situation? Moreover, teachers are not trained to use a gun as well as a police, and misfiring may result in unnecessary deaths. We understand the point that some students may be over-rebellious, but using a gun to threaten a student could potentially fuel xenophobic effects. Some may argue that teachers have to carry guns for self-defence, as for certain more liberal society, anyone including students could be carrying guns. However, we should not be overly-paranoid as not everyone carries guns to school. In fact, the responsibility of carrying guns should be placed under the school security as well as policemen, and not the teachers. Side: Yea.. Thas a negative
i have lots of adult friends that carry guns and are net stressed at all when im around them, i feel safer with them knowing they have a gun. this is all assuming that the student knows the4 teacher has a gun on them, there are many ways to carrya gun without anyone knowing. when you get a concealed carry permit you are trained to use the gun properly. If you have to teach a class of rowdy students who don't listen or pay attention, teachers can lose their patience pretty easily. Anger and fury can affect their rationality and if teachers could carry guns, we'd probably have 'TEACHER MASSACRES STUDENTS WITH GUN' on the newspaper everyday. Side: Yea.. Thas a negative
Teachers should not carry guns in schools as a way to get students to pay attention in class. Furthermore, schools granting teachers the right to posse arms will affect on how outsiders were to view a school’s education system. Imagine, if teachers were allowed to carry guns in schools, it would reflect that the education system that particular school adopts actually encourage violence which should not be the case. After all, schools are needed to educate the students about moral values and on problem-solving without the need of violence. On the other hand, if teachers were given permission to carry arms to school, it would change the supposedly conducive learning environment to a one of high tension. For example, with the knowledge that their teacher possessing a gun, physically the students would not dare to fool around in class, mentally and emotionally the minds of the students would be clouded with the fears of being shot down by their teacher anytime literally.
