Should the Minimum Standards for Zoos be Incresed

Should it be made law for animals in zoos to have a better standard of living than they do currently? Many zoos are currently raising the quality of their exhibits lives with animals enjoying more space, activities, better food and sometimes private areas of their enclosures. So, should all this be made law?

I do think the standards need to be increased, but only certain aspects. However, I don't think this is the sort of thing that can be made law, because it's not a definitive statement: like "that it should be law to make zoos have better minimum standards". Give examples of minimum standards, please.

For a variable such as space, animals (especially males) have an increased likelihood of getting into fights- which results in severe injury and even death. Wild animals like their space and in zoos they often don't have it. We have a relatively recent example where a female chimp was killed by a dominant male. A link to the news article is below. By increasing the standard of space we are giving a better quality of life to the animals contained within it.

Zoos should update their quality standards to ensure the animals are happy.
