Should the UK become the 51st state of America?

Yes, this would be sweet...not in a negative or mean way, but yes, I could see us joining forces. But, the British are too proud to make it work!

"Not in a negative or mean way"

How would this be a positive or happy way at all?

If you plan on taking away our individuality, something America has previously felt passionate about keeping in the past, then that has to be a negative thing. It would also be an excessively mean thing.

It is just like saying to you that I will, without consent, adopt you and make you become part of my family. What would you say to that?

America doesn't know enough about our country anyway. Have you ever heard of how they once asked for London Bridge, just a boring, normal bride for loads of money, when instead they intended to have Tower Bridge, which is legendary. If America does not know enough about our country then how can we become part of them?

To do such a thing and take away our freedom like that would be extremely stupid, unfair and hypocritical.

I agree with your points, but I wasn't assuming an assimilation of England into the US. I was thinking it could be like what we have done with Puerto Rico. Made things easier to do business visit, etc., but they have kept their individuality! That is a must. And you are correct, most of us don't know enough about England. I lived there for a year and feel I only scratched the surface!

it would be better for both of us since we are already developed

Side: Yes

We would need 52 to make it work.

Let's see if Mic and Axe can post on this debate without blowing a gasket.

ASSHOLE! How dare you suggest such a thing. You were our colony, it will never happen the other way around.

Gasket blown, like I predicted. Good to know I'm getting to know you, Axe.

Well it's a stupid thing to suggest, that guy deserves every insult he gets.

Why should Britain, one(well three countries really) of the countries of which founded america, have to lose their identity to become part of something that previously rejected them. And as a bonus the pound is much stronger than the dollar. So a hell no from me.

Considering the UK is four states in itself, and America is a former state of the United Kingdom, it would make more sense for the US to rejoin it's parent, but I'd rather they stay on the other side of the Atlantic, I'm not optimistic about this election coming up.

Having lived in both countries I can only conclude that the USA and the UK are too different for one to become a part of the other. Most of the UK is very proud of the NHS which many Americans would deem "unamericain" . British people are fare more reserved and serious than Americans. British people hate American corruptions of the English language. There are thousands of tiny tea/ coffee differences. Many British people are in favor of the monarchy. The geographical distance is huge. Also most British people like being British, they don't want to be Americans. How would Americans feel about becoming the fifth country of the UK? If you want to unite so much then rejoin our empire ;)

Side: No

Thats really fucking ironic, a country that was originally a colony of the UK anexing the UK? lol

The original colony of the UK was Ireland.

What an utterly ridiculous idea.

You were part of our empire. It will never be the other way around and in some ways America has abused its freedom: you have world series basketball when the only competitors are American, you have the world's largest obesity rates and you misspell almost every word in the dictionary. If anything America should be recaptured by us - and it will never happen the other way around.

I cannot believe that someone could think of such an insanely absurd idea, and it will never happen. As to whether it should? No, as I have already mentioned you have not done great things with your independence.

What a ridiculous idea.

Why should a country that colonized another country be absorbed by the latter?

And give up thousands of years of history and over a thousand years of monarchy? NO WAY. I love America but I cannot see it happening.

Side: No

I don't think so. It's so far off and it'd probably get the Britains pretty angry. Also, 51 is an odd number. I think simply becoming alliances is good enough.
