Should the USA and its allies have invaded Afghanistan?

Do you think that the intervention of the United States and its allies in Afghanistan was a big mistake and do you think that this has resulted in greater damages to the U.S or do you believe that the actions of the U.S and its allies have done more good than harm?

There is substantial evidence our actions have surpressed Al Quada in the area, and hurt their recruitment efforts world wide.

The difference is, we did not "invade afghanistan" as in we did not pursue regime change. So yes, we did the right thing and had we not been distracted by Iraq it is likely Osama would be dead by now.

I do believe the US did pursue regime change, now they did not take over the government, this is a neocolonial world we live in and the US is fond of these cheap little things called puppet governments, this is essentially how powerful foreign governments, mainly the US seeing as they are the single world power now, control sovereign states. These governments protect the interests of multinational corportations like exxon mobil which have higher GDP's than most countries in the world. Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan's president, was placed in power by the US government since him and his oil were very friendly with the US. Hamid Karzai continues to oppress the rights and freedoms of his own people, violence and oppression against women is rampant there as female members of parliament have been gang raped inside parliament. But, Al Qaeda, the REAL bad guys were suppressed a little, so it's all okay. It doesn't matter that the US instated an oppressive puppet regime, as long as the "bad guys" are surpressed. So I ask you, "who are the real bad guys here?"

Short Answer - No. Long Answer - Hell no. We have learnt absolutely nothing from the Russian invasion at all and we are going to suffer from it

Afghanistan was a pretty messed up country and something needed to be done. However the problem is that they've replaced one evil leadership with another one, but one that they can exploit. So even though Afghanistan needed to be rectified, the Allies reasoning and actions were totally unjust - just as they tend to be. They prefer having an evil person they can control rather than an evil person who is against them.

It is easy to criticize, but we had few viable options.

No, there is no reason for us to be there, and I do believe the entire reason the UN was created so that countries couldn't just invade others on the drop of a hat, but there should be consent among all the other nations to stop atrocities from occurring. The war in Afghanistan has come with a tremendous loss of civilian life of their side, military loss on our side, and and extremely unnecessary cost to the taxpayers

Actually, there were terrorist training camps there, in addition to the radical, violent Taliban regime. As retaliation for 9/11 and in order to advance freedom and security in the region, as well as security here in the US, the invasion was necessary.

In Afghanistan U.S. marines are foreigners. To the citizens of the sovereign nation of Afghanistan: U.S. marines speak (poorly) a foreign language; they exhibit strange, outlandish & foreign behavior; they disregard the law; they terrorize the citizenry with their weapons; they irradiate the land with uranium; they act with impunity; they are without honor

It is a waste of lives and money. Here it is now 2015 and that conflict is still going on.
