If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.

Death is easier than a life sentence. Some criminals deserve to rot in jail. The death penalty is also more expensive than just confining the criminal to prison for a lifetime.
Pray tell me how you figure a life term in prison is less expensive than a death sentence?
I know energy prices are soaring but I'm sure the gas or electricity along with the add-ons, used to burn a human being would be significantly less than providing food and accommodation for years on end.
Apparently the average cost to keep a prisoner in the penitentiary is around $25,000, p.a.
"The study counted death penalty case costs through to execution and found that the median death penalty case costs $1.26 million. Non-death penalty cases were counted through to the end of incarceration and were found to have a median cost of $740,000."
You're welcome for the proof that the government is incapable. But that doesn't do anything, does it? If the government can't carry out the death penalty efficiently, wouldn't it just be best to call it quits and let justice be served in the name of life imprisonment?
Because liberals fight for the murderers against the interests of the public and the victims family/friends. There are currently over 800 inmates on California's Death Row. We're talking child murderers and rapists that will not be executed no matter what by Governor Newsom. Meanwhile prisons are overfilled in California and many violent offenders (robbery/assaults) are being freed onto the streets to commit more crime. Again, Democrats want violent felons to vote in elections because they know that criminals will side with Democrats who are weak on crime.
Nowhere did I mention anything about politics. The death penalty isn't a democratic thing. Freeing criminals who have committed acts that deserve a life sentence definitely shouldn't be freed, that's a mistake on the government's part. I'd rather these child murderers/rapists and violent offenders rot in jail for life.
it's ONLY more expensive because liberals give murderers far more assistance than that of the victims families.
The current never ending appeals process for murderers was designed by leftists. Democrats see violent criminals as a part of their voter base, that's why you see leftist politicians like Bernie Sanders and "The Squad" advocating to giving violent felons sitting in prison voter rights and opportunities.
Every American should love the Constitution. Do you not love the Constitution? Leftist politicians and judges have given violent murderers opportunities to manipulate the judicial system.
Who exactly was attacked? How many injuries occurred? Why can't you name one person involved in the event? Did you honestly feel that our government was under threat on that day?

Hello D:
1. I dunno
2. The seat of government was attacked
3. I dunno
4. I dunno
5. I did, and so did the Justice Department.
Therefore, what? It couldn't have happened because I'd know their names if it did???

Hello again, D:
Ohhh, I know what you're trying to say.. You're saying the appeals process, which the Constitution calls for, is leftist politicians and judges manipulating the Constitution..
Leftist judges make their decisions on based on "feelings and emotions" as opposed to conservative minded judges that make their decisions based on the proper interpretation of the Constitution and other previous legal decisions.
Excon, you are nit very good at debating. You sound like a teenage girl.
The appeals process has been manipulated by leftists. That's why we currently see murderers on Death Row for 40 + years. We also see Democratic Party governors like Gavin Newsom that ban executions no matter the proof of guilt and judgment rendered.
The appeals process has been manipulated by leftists.
Hello D:
I've explained to you how the appeals process involves myriad lawyers, district court judges, state appellate judges, state supreme court judges, federal judges, and federal appellate judges, ALL who've weighed in on this case..
Suggesting that they're ALL leftists, is STUPID, STUPID, STUPID..
The death penalty should be administered within 1-2 years of appeals maximum. Many murderers are rewarded with life prison terms as they are often already very accustomed and acclimated to the prison environment. The fact that murderers in prison fight very hard against being executed only demonstrates further that the death penalty is a very just penalty.
Excon, name calling doesn't win debates around here. Many violent criminals/murders have previously spent time in our prison system. Their FEAR is the REAL WORLD, examples; getting a job, supporting their families and giving back to the community.
Violent murderers are against the death penalty because they don't mind the prison existence, even if for life. The death penalty takes away that option and fairly gives control back to our justice system and the rights of the victims families.

Hello D:
Calling what you said crazy shit, is NOT calling you a name.. It's attacking your argument, which IS what debate IS..
Now, if I'da said YOU'RE crazy, that's calling you a name.. Look.. It's English.. You don't get English any more than you get law.. Now, THAT'S calling you a name..
You still have not properly responded to my debate comment regarding the death penalty. All you did was claim my argument was invalid or in your words "crazy".
Anyway, here in Nevada we have an inmate on death row (Zane Floyd) responsible for a grocery store massacre in 1999. He has manipulated the court system for 23 years and he's now fighting very hard to not be executed. I'm praying that justice prevails, all while state Democrats continue to work towards denying that justice to the victims families.

Hello again, D

That's crazy shit.
all while state Democrats continue to work towards denying that justice to the victims families.
That's more CRAZY shit - especially when you think the appeals process is a VERY FINE thing, if it's Donald Trump who's doing the appealing. Amirit?
Third: In my view, it SHOULD be hard to execute someone - VERY hard.
Finally, I did comment on the unconstitutional length of time it takes to carry out an execution.. If you missed it, here it is again. "It's double jeopardy.. The condemned person serves what is ordinarily a life sentence and then he's put to death.. That ain't right"..
What is specifically wrong with the appeals process in the USA? Explain why should it be "hard" to execute violent murderers previously judged as guilty.
There are over 800 inmates currently sitting on California's death row. How many of those inmates are innocent?!? Even more, could you offer names of innocent people that are currently sitting in USA prisons?

Hello D:
For the third time, it takes too long.
Look.. If everybody on death row were guilty, I'd be fine with the ultimate punishment.. BUT, they're not.
According to the Sentencing Project, 100's of people on death row have been exonerated. And, it's the appeals process that allows for that. If executing people were easy, those innocent people would be dead..
Now, I'm sure you'll call ALL the judges involved in the appeals process, and ALL of lawyers corrupt leftists.. But, that would be STUPID, STUPID, STUPID..
