Should the national anthem be allowed to be recorded in Spanish?

Expressing patriotism in a diff language

On 4/28/06 Bush said:

"I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."

Adam Kidron, the British-born producer behind Nuestro Himno (Our Hymn) said it was not his intention "to usurp anything."

"I wanted to show my thanks to these people who buy my records, and listen to the music we release, and do the jobs I don't want to do," said Kidron, who has been a U.S. resident for 16 years. src

What do you all think of this? Is it okay, is it disrespectful, patriotic?

I think the national anthem of any country should be respected and be song in the original language that it was written in.

However, I think citizens should be allowed to pay tribute to their country in the language that they feel more comfortable with and the language they can express themselves better. People that sing the Spanish version of the anthem (Nuestro Himno) don't mean any harm with the fact that they are singing in spanish. In fact I think they are trying to show their respect and their pratriotism towards the country that has helped them prosper.

This does not mean that they are trying to impose a new language or anything.. it just means that they are patritic!

I believe that one should be allowed to do as they please, as long as they don't invade upon the personal rights of another man. While they sing the national anthem in spanish, personally, I believe, they should be aware of its origins in English, and English, having been the first form of it, should remain the national version that the federal government upholds.

By not allowing this wonderful work to be translated we are insulting it. All the best writings of history have been translated: Aristotle, Dante, Shakespeare, Keats, etc.

How dare we restrict the spread of words with power?

Yes if it's just for themselves. But for any thing the government funds, no.

Don't really feel like providing a further argument for this one. it should be apparent.
