Should the word "Christmas" be taken out of Christmas?
~
Peace on Earth? Forget it. Nowadays, Christmas is a battlefield in the culture wars. "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" has come to mean that there are endless arguments about nativity scenes, Santa Claus and reindeer on public property, Christmas carols in public schools, and the greeting "Merry Christmas" vs. "Happy Holidays."
"Arguments" is, perhaps, too polite a term. These days, we can't argue about anything without name-calling, hyperbole, paranoia, and crude stereotyping. Christmas is no exception. One side sees a satanic peril in a store clerk's "Happy Holidays" greeting; the other sees a theocratic menace in a Christmas carol sung at a school concert.

I like saying "Merry Christmas" more than "Happy Holidays". It just has a certain richness to it that "Happy Holidays" just doesn't have. I can see the reasons for a business to use HH over MC, since it appeals to a larger demand, but I see no reason why such a thing should be mandatory. Side: Let poeple openly celebrate

Let people say whatever they want. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Winter Solstice, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, etc. I don't care what somebody greets me with, I'll say it right back to them. They're all interchangeable to me. People need to stop being so sensitive and easily offended. If you're a Christian and somebody says "Happy Holidays" to you, you take it and say it right back to them. If you're not religious and somebody says "Merry Christmas" to you, you say it right back to them. They all mean the same thing: "I wish you a safe and happy winter season." I don't agree that all are the same thing... but I get what your saying and, yeah I think people should be free to say whatever, none of the holiday greetings should be denied. Like my cousin who works at nordstrom can't say merry Christmas to customers at here work... Side: Let poeple openly celebrate

"I don't agree that all are the same thing" I know, but when these sayings are thrown around as casually as they are, they're usually received the same way. It only seems to be the douches who would call someone out over "Merry Christmas". "my cousin who works at nordstrom can't say merry Christmas to customers" That's not right.
