Should there be a "line" in comedy and satire?

If so, where would you draw the line?

Yes. The line should exclude children that are under the age of 18 or those that are disabled. It is not funny making fun of a mentally retarded person or sex joke about a 14 year old.

But sometimes those are the best jokes...

I can't think of any joke about mentally retarded people so...

What's pale, white and bounces up and down in a crib?

A pedophiles ass!

Now, I'm sure I offended some people, but ask yourself this: who did I hurt?

If you answered anything other than no one, then you are wrong. Freedom of speech is an important right, and we shouldn't get butthurt when people choose to exercise that right.

What's the difference between a Porsche and 100 dead babies?

I don't have a Porsche in my garage.

So racist jokes are OK then, right? How did Obama's mom keep Obama from jumping up and down on the bed? She put velcro on the ceiling. ;)

I don't think anything should be considered taboo when it comes to comedy. However, if the comedian goes and makes a joke about a mentally handicapped person, for example, people should let him know how low that was and make him feel foolish for his choice of comedy.

I kind of understand what you are saying and there is certainly a case to be made about not making jokes about people who are not able to get the joke.

But seeing as every joke is usually at the expense of something or someone, then why should we treat handicapped people any different? The sheer fact that we feel we have to protect these people, is evidence of how we regard them as inferior and needy of our protection.

I usually find that the people who protest at such jokes are usually very self righteous (up their own arse) and do it with an air of a higher moral ground. To which you can't help but want to say "Oh, take a fucking chill pill, you!"

yeah... i make fun of anything i can possibly think of. I used to make fun of the retarded kids at my high school (not to their faces, i was actually friendly with them).

My school was a third black so i made fun of them a lot (to their faces and behind their backs). A lot of Asians as well. And a lot of Hispanics. I used to yell out "FUCK COLUMBIA, FUCK VENEZUELA AND FUCK PUERTO RICO" in the middle of the court yard.

I still do that shit... why am i saying I used to?

point is, it makes people laugh. As long as people are laughing, it's good. As soon as no one laughs, then that's when you fucked up.

No way. Isn't the point of comedy, humor that's not to be taken seriously? If someone is taking it seriously, they probably shouldn't be there in the first place.

Think back to the time when there was no such thing as "politically incorrect" that was when we had the best comedy. However, we should probably draw the line when it comes to the retarded and the handicapped.
