Should there be a points threshold for voting?
We've seen a lot of downvoting sprees recently. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's getting irritated by it.
Right now, the minimum number of points required to vote on a post appears to be one, and that's being abused by throwaway accounts that make a few spammed posts to generate points, then go off on a spree.
I suggest a minimum number of points should be required in order to cast votes on posts. We will need to strike a good balance here; we want the number sufficiently high so as to prevent spammers from abusing the system, and sufficiently low as to not overly penalize newer legitimate posters.
Do you believe that there should be a minimum number of points aside from one before voting can take place? What threshold?

I believe that 200 points would be a good starting threshold. This represents a number that is somewhat difficult to achieve in short order, but is still sufficiently small so as to allow new posters to begin voting without too much delay, in my estimation. Perhaps we could couple this with a hard cap on the number of debates an individual user can create on a given day. Note: I've based this number on repeated observations of the leaderboard. If a spam account needs several days to a week to generate the needed number of points, we should be able to catch the spammers before they are able to do so. 5

Yes, I agree. Especially considering the votes are used in determining a person’s efficiency monitor and are used to determine which arguments get minimized or brought to the top of the debate. I think in addition to a threshold, there could be a way to reduce the amount of spam and trolling in general. But a threshold to the ability to vote would be a good start. 1
