Should tuition fees be abolished?

Yes

I'm inclined to say yes just to prevent them from being bumped up any higher! Coming from the UK where they are now £9,000 a year it would likely be incredibly burdensome on the average earner's finances - even if you don't pay it back right away. Otherwise we risk returning back to the days when only the creme de la creme of society could afford to go for further education and better themselves academically. I wouldn't be surprised if some are put off attending university for this very reason. Or if the fees won't be abolished then at least reduce them but with the Tories in power for another five years I've a scary feeling it will just go the other way - again.

Side: Yes

Assuming you are referring to college tuition, there is not a good way to fund most colleges without tuition. Unless you have a good alternate solution, I don't see a good way to stop it.

Reducing the cost of tuition, on the other hand, I am in favor of.

You are talking from the UK perspective... tuition fees are extremely low compared to the USA, for example, but much higher than many European countries. This would seem like something to complain about but in reality everyone who has completed further education can go on to university. If you don't have the money, the government loans you it at 0% interest, that you don't have to pay back until you're earning over a certain amount, and also gives some money that you don't have to pay back for the cost of living. I don't see a problem with the current system.

I don't want to have to pay in taxes for other people to do pointless mickey mouse degrees such as Media Studies, Film Studies, Photography, Sociology etc. A lot of degrees nowadays, possibly even most degrees are mickey mouse.

Why are the degrees you mentioned 'pointless' in your view?

I really would like to know what percentage people out of those who do film studies actually end up working in the film industry. Very low I bet. As for Media studies it isn't even useful in order to become a journalist. It also has a very bad reputation. Photography shouldn't even be a degree because you don't need a degree to take photos. Sociology does not have good job opportunities. Furthermore all of these degrees are known for being easy and 'soft'. They are not useful or difficult or at all respected.
