Mandatory voting might encourage a few more people to pay attention to politics than do now, but on balance would result in a lot more people that don't pay attention to politics voting in ignorance - not the best idea. Though it should probably be easier for those who do want to vote in many states - see an alternative idea here And, a related debate here Side: No
