Should we be rid of the standby button

The standby button on our T.V seems to serve no real purpose. Shouldnt we just turn the T.V off or is there some reason for the standby button that alot of us seem to miss.

Most electronic equipment have a "computer" inside running some form of Linux (operating system). Standby means the TV will turn on faster. Think of your computer and how long it takes for it to boot up from scratch VS from standby mode.

Oh. I never realized that the standby button served any purpose. I change my mind it should stay.

Thankyou for your answer. I was unsure as to wether a TV had a computer on board and this answers my question. But does turning the TV off cause any harm to the TV or are we burning unneccessary energy to just save ourselves the 2-5 seconds that we'd have to wait to turn on our TV?

There's not harm done by turning off the TV.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I, like the creator of this debate, see no reason why a television shouldn't JUST have a power button. To me, a standby button seems to serve no purpose whatsoever.

Side: GET RID OF IT

I don't think my television has a standby button... and if it does, I'm certainly doing fine without it. Although people could say that about anything.

I suppose I'm ambivalent.

According to Energy Review, 8 percent of all domestic electricity used is used by electrical equipment in sleep mode. That's 800,000 tons of carbon emissions.

The convenience is not worth that cost.
