Should we bother protecting animals that don't provide anything for the Human race?
this is the conversation I had with someone the other day
Them: Don't shoot that panda
Me; Why all they do is eat and sit
Them: Yeah but they're endangered
Me: and?
Them: if you kill them there will be none left
Me: and? all they do is eat and sit, if you ask me that's a waste of resources.
Them: you might as well say that about obese americans, why don't you go shoot them.
Me: Fine then I will......
Just wanted the opinion of the rest of you guys

Every species has its place in the ecosystem, and extinction can have a detrimental effect upon other species, and possibly humans. A lot of endangered species are so endangered because of poaching/hunting/harvesting by the human race, so after all, we bare some responsibility for the survival of a species. Side: yes

If they aren't beneficial to humans, no. But most of them are in some fashion because the extinction of one species often throws the ecosystem out of balance where it resided. For example, if the north American cougar became extinct, it would cause a rise in deer populations, which may cause them to damage crops when they run out of grazing land. Of course this particular situation could be easily remedied by allowing more deer tags during hunting season, but my point is that it's important to prepare for the ecological changes that will occur if and when we remove a species. Ultimately though, the ecosystem is self stabilizing and does not require the existence of every species that currently exists. Side: No
The human race is nothing but a horrendous disease that has spread like the plague over this planet. We multiply like crazy, and lose our minds when something invades our territories (like a squirrel in your back yard). I think we need to stop taking ourselves so damn seriously. Side: yes
