Should we cancel Christmas

America is deeply in debt (10 trillion), Americans are also individually in debt. Christmas is an expensive time of year when people spend loads of money on presents (which may or may not be appreciated).

A lot of money spent in America is on goods not manufactured there - so your Santa dollar ends up in the profits of other countries.

We SHOULD cancel Christmas (or at least, the present giving side of it), so that more American money is kept at home, credit card debt isn't increased even further and people will not face an even worse 2009 than they would otherwise.

So, lets just cancel the holiday and all the commercialism that goes with it. Bah, humbug!

Cancel Christmas? NO! Cancel the commercialism? YES!

I would leave it to the individual. If you've had Christmas all year long and are in debt, maybe you should consider letting it go. My family has been very fortunate in that we have no debt and have had "cash Christmas" as far back as I can remember.

I think this takes wisdom on the part of the individual though, and should not be something forced from the outside.

That's a good point but I would like to add that I am sick and tired of hosing reindeer crap down the gutter. Santa should train those miscreants reindeer of his. Especially Rudolph! He should have been housebroken years ago. I even caught him lifting his leg and urinating on the chimney once! The little sh!t.

Christmas is the biggest farce there is.Parents work over time to buy gifts for their kids then give the credit to Santa. You know teaching your child about Christmas is abuse.Teaching them about greed and to lie.I know about the real greed it creates having worked in retail.People are not kind and charitable they are meaner and more hateful than ever.Add to that the fights that erupt over finances in the middle over the store.Usually one spouse is saying thats enough while the other is saying its Christmas.I do not not want my kids to have a crappy Christmas.Crappy Christmas is relative. Some of these moms are just nuts. Each kid has to get 5 toys ,it has to cost 200 dollars and thats that. I was lucky my Dad never lied to me or forced me to celebrate Christmas. He showed me what it really was.Commercialism in Jesus name. What a crying shame?I am sad for Jesus. So many people who do not even believe in him celebrate it.I say donate to coats for kids not toys for tots because it is a shame what these welfare moms are doing.I know one who signed up her kids for everything.Angel tree, adopt a family, shop with a cop and toys for tots. She has a shameful extravagant Christmas every year and thinks she is sly.Toys are not necessary.Food and clothes are.kids can be happy with art supplies and dollar store toys they do not need so much of the crap they get.I think the worst crime is that parents who do not celebrate it are made to feel bad.As though they were bad parents. We always had toys, and things we needed.Parents should not feel bad in fact if it made someone feel better they could say hey we will do something at tax time.We will go toy shopping and eat out.Christmas is not when Jesus was born .I challenge anyone even the Pope to show it me in the Bible.I am so tired of this holiday.I have never seen so much stress and sadness as I have this year because of it.I know that this is not what Jesus would want at all.He did not care about these types of things. He would say if you have extra feed and cover the poor.If you do not have extra pay your bills and meet your responsibilities.

Side: We can't afford it

Christmas was started by the major corporations back in 1924 as a means of convincing poor people to spend all of their money on unnecessary things--companies like S. Clause inc. and Big Elf. We need to fight back on this one guys.

this year we are doing a 'handmade, used and buy american' christmas.

rules are simple presents will either be purchase used (this sounds bad but video games, furniture are easily purchased used)

so the kids will be getting 'new to them' bedroom sets. . .

anything new has got to be made in this country. . .we are allowing a $50 non used not made here item. . .and we are not to enter Walmart at all this holiday season. Give people a working wage Walmart and you might see us after the holidays. . .probably not.

that's it.

so yes christmas. but send a message besides the standard peace on earth, goodwill toward men. . .which is nice too.

It's not about money. We need to remember the true meaning of Christmas and start finding other ways to celebrate besides spending a lot of money and going deeper in debt.

If we cancelled Christmas the economy would plummet! We need all of that money changing hands because it means jobs for millions of people! Bizarrely, it's spending (within our means) that makes the economy work.

scrimp and save all year.

max all credit cards out.

stress and fighhing all over money.

spend one day out of the year so the merchants make money for 1 month hmmmmm.

when they can make money all year long without christmas.

just a greedy merchant money grab.

who gets rich at christmas? the merchants.

who gets poor at christmas? YOU.

think the merchants care about you? as long as you you have money to give them then they want nothing to do with you.

yeah real good huh...................NOT

Christmas isn't about money, its about love, family, relationships and religion. The amount it costs is irrelevant. America and Americans are so deeply in debt another couple of thousand here and there isn't going to make any difference.

2009 is going to be a horrible year for a lot of people anyway, with increased foreclosures, more job losses etc.. - let us at least face into it by having one good party!

and that about sums it up for me...

Why on earth would you cancel Christmas? It is one of the holiest days of the Christian calendar! Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It doesn't matter if you are as rich as Bill Gates or a poor as a church mouse...Christmas is a time of peace and good will toward your fellow man. I've seen wars stop because of this day!

Go, have some fun and celebrate whatever it is you celebrate with friends and family. And remember the story of Jesus and Lazarus when Lazarus compared his fortune to the old woman who gave two pennies. Lazarus couldn't grasp the difference until Jesus told him..."It was all she had." So bring some good cheer and a smile...make some mulled cider and share it with loved ones. Christmas needn't cost you fortune in money when you don't have it to spend. The spirit of Christmas lies in the hope and love we have in our hearts for each other.

Bullcrap, the exact date doesn't matter to anyone. What matters most is that he was born.

Christmas is an American tradition about bringing people together in harmony.

yes, it's based on the birth of Christ, but even agnostics, jews and atheists celebrate it cause it's just an awesome time of year (i know personally, not referring to all of those types).

Getting rid of Christmas is like ripping the pubes off of America. HOW DARE YOU!

I never said it started in America.

And Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ. The actual date doesn't matter much to Christians. It's the point of celebration.

if you loved your children then there's no reason to cancel christmas and besides it's all about giving and sharing

shouldnt us all spending our money help spread the wealth to others and companys so they dont go out of business making people of higher education than ourselfes steal our jobs?

Side: Hang it, we need our fun

Canceling Christmas is ludicrous and absurd how can that even be up in the air? It gives everyone in America 2 weeks off from school, time to spend time with your family, and you get free gifts. I mean that isn't what Christmas is about but those are some good reasons.

Side: Hang it, we need our fun

cancel- its the time of year that everyone goes futher in dedt. use credit cards to buy and savings only to spend all year paying it off and still have dedt at end of year just to do it all over again.

cancel and everyone will be able to afford more things all year long instead of one day. everyone dreads spending large amounts of money for one day excitement but what excitement do you get when the bills come in.

the economy would thrive all year long instead of one day. spending would be spread out all year.

christmas was desined as a merchants grab for greedy cash.

take santa and take the n out and put it on the end.

nowhere in the bible does it say when jesus was born it just says when he died.

bible doesnt say to celebrate birthday, easter, christmas etc it does say celebrate the memorial of christ.

now you want a challenge to prove me wrong?

get the bible , any religion you choose, what fruit did eve bite?

now find where it named the fruit that she ate. think about it god created the forbidden fruit in the centre of garden of eden and destoyed it. why is he going to destroy what sinned mankind only to allow the sin to continue by planting the forbidden fruit all over the world......NOT.

heres another challenge,

what was jesus put to death on?

get the bible and find the word cross.

you wont youd be amaed by what we are taught and what the bible really says.

dont let people read scriptures to you, you do the reading and find the truth....for it is written. if you seek you will find, if ask it will be given.

why didnt jesus celebrate chritmas, why centries after his death christmas

came about?

who started christmas and when and for what purpose.

why is the churches lying to us, what are they hidding,

why hide the truth?

the bible is all we need and not someone reading scriptures cause the dont read all the bible and teach complete truth....GODS TRUTH.....it is written read it , its up tp you not someone else.

as for the time off from work and school for a break keep that and call it family month instead.

Why would we cancel a holiday that most people consider the best time of the year? Not to mention, it helps our economy grow considering the amount of consumer spending going on.
