Should we celebrate Columbus Day?

Personally I think anyone can celebrate any holiday for any reason. Atheists can celebrate Christmas, Christians can do Halloween, and anyone who likes Columbus Day can do Columbus Day. I understand that historically some say it represents massacre and oppression. But then those are the people that don't need to celebrate it.

Well why not? Yes, he may have caused distraught to many, and he may not have been the first "person" to discover our great land, but he did bring England to this land. It may not have been a worldly discovery, but it was a discovery nonetheless. And you can't blame him for his actions. He was only but a confused white man. These people were foreign to him, he wasn't sure what to do so he resorted to the only thing he could think of that kept him safest.

Only in that he never discovered America. People can celebrate what they want but as a tribute to a person whose celebrated accomplishment was already done by another and isn't looked upon as a good turn of events....no. But again, to each their own.
