Should we go back to being an isolationist country, after Afghanistan?
After ten years of constant skirmishes and fighting a guerilla war with Al-Queda and The Taliban. Should we as a nation fall back and become a defensive power again. Just like we were before World War One and World War Two. Our economy can no longer handle the rising costs of maintaning a very long and progressive war against an enemy who is so good at blending in, we have a difficult time even seeing them?
My question to lead this debate is that is it possible that the United States of America can go back to being isolationist after decades of having been deemed "The Worlds Police Force"? If we can, how would that look like? If we cannot? Why and what would be the reasoning behind it.

I have several reasons why this nation should fall back and go into isolationism. The first is our ever weakening economy. We are spending billions of dollars a month on defense spending. This and many other items is whats causing the government to burn through more tax payer dollars than ever before. If we were to fall back and defend our own country, we could potentially cut at least 1/3 the defense budget. We would still have a very large nuclear deterrence in this world and that in it self is intimidation alone. Secondly, with the ever growing use of drones. We can do things today without the use of manned aircraft and troop buildup. Thirdly, it would make the United States look a lot better in the eyes of the international community. We are viewed as "over-the top, imperialistic, warmongers" and if we were to back out of many of the places that we are not needed. We will look better. Side: Yes, we should.
