From my knowledge on the subject, more emissions are put into the atmosphere from clearing the land, harvesting, and refining a crop to be used as a biofuel, than the biofuel it self being used as a substitute for a fossil fuel prevents.

Hemp production need not produce any additional emissions, as a portion of existing farmlands could be rotated to hemp production, reducing food exports yet eliminating oil imports, & vastly reducing auto emissions in the process. Likewise, refining can be as simple as pressing oil from the seeds. Likewise, hemp biodiesel could be used not only for autos, but also for farming equipment & fuel production facilities. The flaw in Kyle's argument is that it assumes we shall use conventional oil or coal to produce green energy.
