Should we have arrested Bin Lauden and put him on trial rather than have killed him?

Yes I do think that Bin Lauden should have been arrested and put on trial rather than killing him. The reason I personally think he should have been put on trial instead of taking his life away [ right away ] . Also I don’t think the killing of Osama bin Laden will provoke terrorists to do anything that they weren’t already planning to do. "What has provoked people into becoming terrorists is the killing of innocents –shooting people from helicopter gunships or firing missiles into villages because they looked suspicious or because there was an enemy fighter in their midst. But there is no reason to fear the consequences of killing an actual enemy leader." (http://philebersole.wordpress.com/2011/05/05/should-osama-bin-laden-have-been-put-on- trial/) Bin Lauden should have been captured , given a trial , & should have gotten tortued to death : & go through all the pain he put the familys through on 9/11 instead of being shot and killed instantly.

I believe that Osama Bil Laden should have been captured and interogated to recieve more information about further attacks. I believe this is because the navy seals that had killed Bin Laden also recovered the plans to attack the subway systems of the United States on the tenth anniversary of teh 9/11 attack. Knowing this, Why wouldn' he know about more attacks on the united states that are already planned. If we had arrested him we would know about the planned attacks before they would happen. We would have also had the founder of Al-Queda in our custody, leaving the terrorist group to fend themself without a face for their propoganda and a leader to organize them. This option would save many american lives and also may have ended the war because we would have known what their plans were. This plan of attack would have also been less hostile towards Al-Queda and may have a smaller backlash from the group, if any.

I thikn Bin Lauden should have been captured and put on trial instead of getting shot to death. The reason I say that is because we could have gotten more information out of him. We dont know if theres any other attacks on our way? Also instead of shooting him i think he should of gotten a trial but then again it would be a waste of money becuase of all the people he has killed.

If we were to capture Osama we could have interigated him and gained more useful information that would have helped in the war on terror. Also if we captured him we could have killed him a a slower way, he had no right to such a quick death.

Man, I can see where this debate is going. You Americans. All you want is revenge. Killing him instantly BROKE INTERNATIONAL LAW. By storming his house you became just as bad as him. Revenge gains nothing. Look at what happened the last time America sought revenge on one of its enemies. Hiroshima. But to those on my side of the argument who say we should have tortured him and killed slowly, go and grow up, because yet again, another international law your country keeps breaking is the one against torture. yes, I understand the evil homicidal psychopath did things that were unjustifiably horrific, but that doesn't justify you doing it too.

True, I believe our country is still very upset from 9/11 and revenge easily satisfies alto of people. When push comes to shove, violence wins because it is very easy to do. I however do not agree with this. I wish I knew more about this event and I'm sure we all do.

(disregard my previous argument, I was assigned as a classroom assignment to oppose Bin Lauden being trailed)

When you label "your country" and "you Americans" thats labeling everyone here in America, and I'M not a part of the people who believe in cut throat action, thank you very much.

I do believe we should have arrested Osama rather than have killed him. I believe we should have captured him and gotten (beaten) as much information on Al Queda as well as other terrorist organizations. I believe for the deaths he caused to innocent U.S. civillians on U.S. soil as well as thousands of others, he deserved a much more severe punishment. Two shots in the face is too quick and painless of a death for such a horrible person. Even if you believe torture, or cruel and unusual punishment isn't okay, he still should have been arrested and tried for his wrongdoings, for he didn't deserve to die, he deserved to rot and serve a long, enduring sentence for his crimes against humanity.

Yes. That is what American law is supposed to be all about.

The American public would have liked seeing a trial, I would think.

There would had to have been a heck of a lot of security though.

Or else we should have handed him over to his own government.

Something tells me he wouldn't have allowed himself to be taken alive though, and what was done is what was done. It saved a lot of money that a trial would have cost.

yes i think he should have been put on trial. mainly because the whole terriost attack has been sort of a secret from the people. i would have liked to have seen him on trial and heard the truth. i really don't think killing him right away was the right way to go.

We were right to Kill Bin Lauden rather than arrest him because in killing him we avoided a trial in which could have been a terrorism trigger in itself. We would have been wasting money on guarding him and would be risking even more lives. He already admitted to his crimes of 9/11 so why wait for the obvious conclusion to his trial.

"He already admitted to his crimes of 9/11 so why wait for the obvious conclusion to his trial."

Because an admission of guilt isn't always evidence of guilt, and evidence of guilt doesn't always mean one is guilty.

Also don't forget that someone is innocent in till proven guilty, has the right to trial, and so on. Sure you could argue that those rights are only for American citizens, in which case you have sovereignty issues and whether or not the rights of an American citizen are derived from natural rights which apply to all men;

Or one could argue that it was an act of war and try to get around the messy trail deal, rather than outright disregarding natural rights and such...

I believe the way the Navy Seals and president Obama went about this was very appropriate. If we were to have put him on trial I believe the facts we would have learned as a nation would have completely destroyed us, and directed us to complete and utter chaos. This is IF he would ever confess any of his wrong doings and horrible plots. If he never owned up to anything I believe people would be outraged, another factor that would create chaos. By ending Bin Laudens life right then and there, which is what he deserves, he is where he belongs and the after life will take care of him!

I don't think it is right that we killed osama. In our constitution we have given everyone certain rights, and although he killed thousands it does not justify killing him. We were looking for him for years and it seems that when we found him he should have been captured and brought back to the U.S. We just asserted our power as a nation which seem like it was to show off. If we had a trial and put it on the news it would be a better solution and osama would have lived in shame for the rest of his life.

in my opinion i think that Osama should have been killed like he was. On Sep. 11, 2001 he killed many inocent Americans, and it would have been much more if it wasnt for some brave American citizans who voluntarily took their own lives to protect the lives of people in their country. On May 1, 2011 U.S. Navy Seals found and killed Osama Binladin. Yes they could have catputured him and put him on trile in the U.S. but if we did that we would just waste more time and money that we do not have. Also that punishment he would have gotten would've either been life in jail or the death sentence.

It was the right thing to do to kill Bin Ladin instead of capturing him.

1. It costs $28,817 a year on average to incarcerate a prisoner, and he would have had been there for most likley the rest of his life.

2. If Bin Ladin had stood trial he would have faced the bereaved families and friends of those innocent civilians killed on 9/11, he probably would have end up dead anyway.

3. The death of Bin Ladin could slow down/stop the war.

I think that killing him was a good idea. I think is was a good idea becasue he was the one who came up with the idea of 9/11. He was the leader. Hes a smart guy. He could find ways to cause more trouble. If he was put on trial. Now since the leader is dead, thats one less mass murderer everyone has to worry about. He killed at least 1,366 innocent people . He deserved to be killed.

Side: No

No, he killed so many people. He reaped what he soed.

He should have never been killed because there are theories that he was the "key" to information. Sure he is dead now and no worries directly from him, but now his people may retaliate. Killing him spared him from suffering for what he'd done. but the fact is no matter what we do terrorists are always going to act with repercussions.

So you are saying that you would give a man a chance who led the death to many people, and him in jail would cause heat with the al qaeda causing more bombings and bin lauden most likely escaping, dont mess with the best hide and seeker in the world 2001-2011 ;)

No, he should not have been put on trial. Everyone knows he was responsible He also should not have been "respectfully cleaned, wrapped in a shroud" and then used to pollute the ocean either.

He should have been stripped naked, dipped in pig's blood, and then his carcass should have been hoisted by crane high above the site of the Twin Towers and left there until even the crows have nothing left to eat.

No, I believe that if we arrested Bin Lauden, that his forces may have tended to come rescue him. Then that would cause a major calamity with us and them more than ever.

Side: No

Killing him was a fast and efficient way to mete out his punishment. A trial would have been a circus and a platform to recruit and rile up even more terrorists and portray himself as a martyr.

Side: No

Since 9/11, terrorist don't have the right right to due process, which is wrong, and bin Laden is no different. Trial with no jury is legal murder.

No, I don't think we should have put him on trial at all and there are a few ways you can go with this. One is that he started reaching for a weapon before being fired apon. Another way to go is that after we killed him we found his plots to attack America, not the two towers but the railroad tracks on the 9/11 anniversary so we would have found him guilty anyway. Think what you will but I believe the Seals and The President knew exactly what they were doing from the time the raid was ordered until not releasing pictures and throwing his body in the Red Sea within 24 hours of his death.

no. India has committed this mistake many times which have resulted in further attacks of terrorists like the attack on Indian parliament. everyone should get a lesson from this and surely Bin Laden should not be put on trial rather than have killed him. A beast like him must be killed at the sight.
