You should always question authority, young and old. If you don't you will get screwed or you won't learn anything!

I am young, being 13 and I think questioning authority helps understand the premesis on which the authority is being given to you. I think personally although it may help it also depends on the situation of course if the authority has had to be brought down more than once theres no reason to question it.

questioning the authority for young individuals is so problematic because there are things that young people cannot understand and there are things that they could understand at the right time and age. One more is that there are this so sensitive that adults cannot explain when talking to young people. these adultsa for clarification are the ones young people consider as authority.

Youth is under-credited. I do not believe they are incapable of understanding the reasoning behind an authorities actions. Often they are capable of pointing out the flaws in an authorities reasoning. Often the authorities respond not by actually backing up their reasoning and tearing down their opponent's, rather they merely attack their challengers, lie and abuse their position. Topics being too "sensitive" to explain don't exist. Sex, death, violence are not too sensitive, and treating them as such leads to many many problems.

As examples of sensitive topics good to handle young: Girls can start menstruating at a very young age, if they know about it growing up it won't be anything unusual and they'll know better how to handle their hormones and the changes taking place. If a death happens well a child is young, its an opportunity to teach the child proper and healthy ways of handling and understanding death, which is a valuable skill to have. That skill will not be had by telling them whoever died went on a long vacation and will make it seem like who ever died choose to leave them behind, possibly leading to feelings of abandonment. I can think of many other examples.

Young people should always question authority, but they should only defy it as a last resort and with a very good reason.

More adults should question authority, but as one ages the masses are easier to follow. To well have elders learned to play Simon Say's.

Whether or not a young person agrees with a point of view they should question it and find why they believe what they do, or find they believe something else. The questioning of authority does not always mean disrespect, but rather growth, these moments should be encouraged and if an adult has an explanation they should give it. Failure to answer the youth's questions about authority leads to mistrust and feelings of superiority (naturally I would assume a failure to give a direct answer means the person has no good reason).

Since we are born we should question everything. As long as you are rational and you can be impartial, you have the right and you should question all you see. Not only authority, you need to question all that you know. That opens you windows to learn outside other people thoughs and starting learning yours.

Not simply because they can.. but only if authorities have done something wrong.

In general I don't think authorities do much wrong.

Even though they are a bunch of pigs that everyone can take the piss out of and they can't do shit about it because of freedom of speech and all that bullshit.

In order to know if they have done something wrong you must necessarily question them first.

No you don't....

You have to yourself decide if they've done something wrong or not.

Pulling over a car because it's swerving isn't a breach of human rights - as many young people like to say

Registering somebody in the sex offenders list isn't a breach of human rights - as a couple of young people are saying

Anti-graffiti devices that only target young people isn't a breach of human rights - as young people managed to convince in court and ban those things.

List goes on to the bullshit young people complain about all the time, bringing up human rights 24/7 when truth be told they're just looking for any excuse to do what they can.

no young people shouldn't question authority

there are many things that they won't understand and they don't have the brains of distinguishing between right and wrong

I'm 14 and know what all of it can lead to so.........

what makes you think authority has the brains to distinguish between right or wrong?

also, by posting in this debate your position; you are demonstrating your ability to compare, contrast etc two different views on something and choose the one you believe correct. yes, your position is incorrect; but it sounds based on some bad experience and some authority figure using it as a tool against you. Yes you will be incorrect on some things, we all are; even the best of us. That does not mean you lack the ability to think.

another point, what is right? what is wrong?

Personally I see virtue as the greatest vice. Who am I to decide, does it matter? does my idea make sense? that is the question that matters. My idea will probably need more explaining for it to make sense, it actually doesn't originate from me; Nietzsche is awesome.
