So, you believe in science?

Science says the universe could be a hologram, a computer program, a black hole or a bubble.

Just like the plot of the Matrix, you may be living in a highly advanced computer program and not even know it. Some version of this thinking has been debated since long before Keanu uttered his first “whoa”. Plato wondered if the world as we perceive it is an illusion, and modern mathematicians grapple with the reason math is universal—why is it that no matter when or where you look, 2 + 2 must always equal 4? Maybe because that is a fundamental part of the way the universe was coded.

In 2012, physicists at the University of Washington in Seattle said that if we do live in a digital simulation, there might be a way to find out. Standard computer models are based on a 3D grid, and sometimes the grid itself generates specific anomalies in the data. If the universe is a vast grid, the motions and distributions of high-energy particles called cosmic rays may reveal similar anomalies—a glitch in the Matrix—and give us a peek at the grid’s structure. A 2013 paper by MIT engineer Seth Lloyd builds the case for an intriguing spin on the concept: If space-time is made of quantum bits, the universe must be one giant quantum computer. Of course, both notions raise a troubling quandary:

If the universe is a computer program, who or what wrote the code?

If the universe is a computer program, who or what wrote the code?

It was procedurally generated using some basic parameters and a random number seed from the parent virtual universe, which was also procedurally generated.

We're buried in a virtual universe within a virtual universe within a virtual universe, ad nauseum. You have to go up at least 20 layers to reach an actual sentient being. If you talk to him, it turns out he's just bored with all the science fiction in his universe, and the various virtual universes are there for one purpose only: to eventually produce sci fi writers. Unfortunately, we seem to mainly be rehashing what's already in his universe- he got the idea from The Matrix (which, in his universe, is the original, not inspired by prior works). The only new thing that our universe has produced so far is Dune, which was too long and wordy for his tastes. He feels it's a step in the right direction though.

If the universe is a computer program...., could "God" have written the code? ;)

Believing that the universe is a computer program is science. Believing that "God" wrote the code...., not so much ;)

I don't get any of it. I just wan't the planet to stop spinning long enough for me to get off. ;)

Within 60 years humans created virtual reality, systems like the oculus rift, imagine a million years from now we will have the capability to create objects out of thin air by manipulating matter itself the funny thing is the universe being a program is really not that far fetched it is definitely something to think about, great read by the way thank you.

It's absolutely possible that we are just in an infinite cycle of universe being created within universe. Then, that would be proof of god because by the original definition god is an order not an entity. All god is is a guiding force of the universe. It would only be science if there was no definite order.

If someone in the future creates a universe in an orb, then billions of years later someone in that orb makes a universe, then that's an order.

So we step in and say that "SOMEONE CREATED IT"? No, that's shallow thinking.

That being said, since I am a solipsist, I technically don't believe in science, although the definition of "belief" is often disputed.
