One thing I have learned from my extensive training in different martial arts, is that the techniques and styles, no madder how different the styles are, always have the same underlying effective techniques. The question is whether a Spartan or a ninja would win in a fight. Well a number of factors would come into play here. One would be techniques and effectiveness of marital art, two would be how well the warrior is trained, three would be equipment, and four would be motivation and actual time spent in battle. All these factors included I would think the Spartan would win.

First of all the training, both ninjas and Greeks were trained from an early age. Both trained in physical fitness (running, jumping, strength, ect.) and fighting techniques; however the Spartans had the distinct advantage. The Spartan boys treated every fight and bought as if it were real and there were many deaths even at an early age. A Spartan’s pain threshold (which is everything in a fight) was legendary. The boys were whipped and whoever lasted the longest won. People often have the misconception that Spartans only trained with weapons. The Spartans had a unique and deadly fighting style called Pankration, literally meaning "all powers". This style incorporated hand to hand combat and weapons, it has been told that this style was so effective that after a Spartan lost all his weapons in battle he could fight fully armed opponents and win. This full contact fighting from age seven give the Spartan the advantage in training.

Pankration is more effective than ninjutsu because of grappling. (I’ve done the research I do not have the space to elaborate). Also some people think that ninjas won all the time against the samurai; not true, the fully trained samurai would win instantly in a fight if the ninja didn’t run away and kill them in their sleep. The Spartan would not fall for that trick though. The Spartans were extremely proficient in stealth at a young age. They were encouraged because of insufficient food to steal from guarded stores. Also they were not allowed to see women until older so they had to sneak out. They often moved army in the dark.

The Spartans equipment was also superior. Their shield was deadly and effective (if you don’t believe me watch Deadliest Warriors on Spike Spartan vs. Ninja). In all Spartans were better warriors.

I would have to disagree with you on several points:

1. the pain threshold counts for much less than you'd expect. Especially if we are talking about the halan, or black eggs, which not only cause pain but legitimately cause blindness. pain is only a secondary factor. if you can't see on the battlefield, you're dead, and the ninja knew it.

2. the spartan's close-combat training may have been great, but the ninja employed long-range weapons that could drop the spartan before he ever had a chance to use that training. A spartan's shield and armour count for nothing when he is against an enemy using poisoned weapons AND stealth to get the best firing angle.

3. ninjutsu no only has a grappling element, but relies on it heavily. The Naki family in particular was exceptionally proficient in breaking bones, even of armoured opponents, which takes the encumbering bulk of the spartan's armour and makes it nothing more than a bronze deathtrap.

Yes but Spartans also have a martial art called pankration which can also break shields using punches and kicks. Its mainly based on grappling, boxing, wrestling and powerful kicks and Spartans use it to kill people. In Greece its also a sport which Spartans are not allowed to join because their brains are hardwired to gouge the eyes, break jaws, necks and limbs. They are also capable of breaking/denting armor and bones.

Spartans get to kick people into a deep, black hole while screaming, "This is Spar-Ta!" ;)

I'm so sick of people quoting that stupid movie! It's so over quoted and over rated.

Agreed. It was a good movie, but not a legendary movie that deserves constant reminding by others.

It's not a movie quote smart one. It's a Leonidas quote =p. Do you even know the name of the battle that movie is about? Do you even know how many Greeks fought there?

Spartans are tough,so are the Ninjas. But what differenciates them from the ninjas is their attitude. They have this killer instinct. They go through hell right from their childhood and are always prepared to face kingdom come.

Spartans are trained for battle since they were young. They would go to one of the most extensive and brutal training known to man. Their mind was hardwired for battle and killing. The ninjas on the other hand are assassins and are trained in covert arts which is completely different from Spartan training who are trained for direct combat. In reality ninjas are just peasants who developed their own unique and different fighting style. Spartans would win because the weapons and tactics of a ninja is to hinder while Spartans are trained to kill using almost anything in the surrounding, like in one battle when a spartan killed the enemy general using a rock.

They're super-secret! Spartans are like tanks and ninjas are like.... magical anti-tank things? Anyway, brawn of Spartans does not conquer ability of ninjas!

Ninja are just peasants trained to fight. Spartans are trained to be warriors from the day they are born to the day they die. Spartans are phalangites, the Ninjas are just little wanna-be samurai from Feudal Japan. How would the ninjas get through the phalanx, something the ninja has never even seen before?

Do your research man!!!! Ninjas are warriors of the freaking night! They go through training much tougher than any spartan. I'm sure the only spartan your thinking of is King Lionidus, but speaking realistically, He could not survive a barrage arrows, let alone deadly accurate Shuriken or Kuni from all directions.

Ninjas Win, Hands down -_-

1. Ninja are not for war, they are for covert operations.

2. But if you had an army of ninja, well, we'd all be saluting a ninja flag because they would rule the world.

How would the compare against the Roman legionnaire or the Hellenistic Phalanx? Answer: They couldn't

Ninjas are guerilla fighters, somewhat like the Viet Con. If the VC fought in a real battle, army on army, the would get killed. The phalanx (how the Spartans fought) was used to build empires, think Alexander the Great, Philip V, Philip III, they all had empires. Japan never had an empire until the world wars. The ninja and samurai were each ineffective.

... I explained that under "ninja are not for war but if..."

More or less.

I thought it was generally accepted samurai were the most effective warrior given the technology of the time, and ninja were just samurai who wisely imo decided not to kill themselves when their leader's fell. Not really fair comparing a world empire with hundreds of thousands of soldiers all working as a single unit to a tiny island with a handful of samurai units fighting amongst themselves. But if then training and skill gives samurai - and by proxy ninja - the edge.

However, competition between man and beast is never a certain thing, much less so man against man, or however that quote goes.

Ninjas use the element of surprise and tactics. Spartans would definitely lose this one. Ninjas are skilled in many weapons and of course, fighting. Ninjas by a long shot!

Side: Ninja
Houston(187) Disputed

Are you saying Spartans didn't use tactics? The phalanx is definitely something I would classify as a tactic. Ninjas were cowards who only killed people in their sleep. 10,000 Ninjas would never fight 5,000 Spartans. Empires who used the phalanx conquered huge amounts of land, the Ninjas never had an empire, if it weren't for a freak storm (a kamikaze) the Tartars would have wiped out the samurai and the ninjas.

Ninjas are great fighters.

The Spartans were the best fighters in the world back in their day.

However, the tactics employed by ninjas are far more devious than those employed by the Spartans.

Do you even know any Spartan tactics? They were masters of stealth, not just "Big Bronze Battle Tanks".

Aren't ninjas also masters of stealth? Ninjas have much better weaponry, and can kill without even being near their enemy.

Side: Ninja

Ninjas all the way. No matter how much sheer power a spartan has, the ninja would outsmart them every time.

Side: Ninja

I've studied ninjutsu, their techniques, history, and mindset extensively. I have great appreciation for the spartans and their skill but the simple fact is that if 300 had ten ninja instead of the persian horde, Leonidas and his group would have gone to the pass and found no-one, then returned to find all of their women and children fled or slain, and provided they did not themselves submit to the same fate as their families, the spartans would then have been picked off by attacks they'd never seen coming. The ninja were masters of taking their enemies out of their comfort zones, and so would have totally baffled the spartans until it was too late. Victory: ninja

Side: Ninja

LOL I must say I am surprised ninjas are losing. Spartans hold one thing to their advantage and one thing only... Brut Strength.

Ninjas come in all shapes and sizes and have something not even the strongest foe could get past... tactics and superior stealth methods. With those two combined, Spartans don't stand a chance.

And... it has already been said before... Ninjas Got Batman :P

Side: Ninja

The entire premise of a spartan even remotely standing a chance of winning rests upon the highly unlikely scenario of the two meeting one on one, in daylight( the reasons for this unlikeliness of said scenario are that ninja would have prepared their every move in whatever mission they were engaging in meticulously. Secondly, the age-old factor of numbers would be on their side[given, ninja would typically move in units].On a tertiary note, nearly all 'missions' of the ninja occurred at night, to give them the added benefit of camouflage!). The much more likely event would be that a ninja assassinates the Spartan as he sleeps(and ergo will be unarmed).

Finally, I would like to examine the weapons in said teams' arsenal... the ninja were expert engineers that specialised in repurposing generic tools for things like agriculture, into deadly weapons. One such notable mention is a bunch of poisonous iron filings, that could be thrown directly into the (unprotected) eyes of any Spartan.

SHURIKENS all day! the spartan will sit there with his net thing tryna catch shurikens flying at like 80 mph. ridiculous. after the net is all caught up in its own business. kunai knife spam! and also ninjas have....THE RASENGAN!!?!?! HAAVE YOU NOT SEEN NARUTO!!!! rasengan definition - an accumulation of chakra compulsed into a small sphere the size of the users palm sending chakra (energy) in rotating motions in order to keep the rasengans form. pierce the rasengan into the spartans armor. and WHALA!!?!?! the spartan goes flying into the air spinning at a rate of 720 degrees per second into oblivion otherwise known as space. ITS A WRAP LIKE BUBBLES

1. Spartans don't have nets they have over sized shields that can cover their body and it can stop a puny shuriken because its made from hardwood covered in ox hid and coated in 1 or 2 inches of bronze.

2. GET REAL ninjas cant use rasengan, chidori or any of that shit from tv and anime, although it would be amazing to send someone fliying from an energy ball just like in NARUTO it would be impossible to do so.

When one consideres a ninja a ninja is an agent of death he comes and will kill in the night. But acording to deadliest warrior and i guote if a ninja saw a spartan the ninja would wait and kill them in thier sleep so the ninja opperate differntly than a spartan but im guessing on ninja could kill more actual spartan than a spasrtan could actualy kill ninjas if boyth used thier prefered methods of combat

I see were you are coming from but if both used their preferred methods of combat the spartan would still win. Here is why. A spartan is not only superiorly trained he also has stealth capability. From a young age Spartans have to sneak around to gain food, see women, and they must be able to move in full armor at night. The spartan has the advantage even at night.
