Stalin Vs Trotsky
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Stalin Some background information on the two http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Trotsky
http://www.philosophyparadise.com/essays/stalinvstrotsky.html - An essay comparing Stalin and Trotsky, which I disagree with. Useful information though.
Would Russia and the world have been a better or worse place had Lenin got his final wish, Trotsky becoming leader of the Communist Party? Or was the man of steel neccessary for the USSR, bringing success on a river of blood? I don't think the answer is as clear cut as the essay makes out, but I want to hear your views.

Stalin would definitely the best man to push USSR forward as a nation and into industrial success, there is no doubt about that. Trotsky was more of an intellectual, he wouldn't have been able to hold the fort down as well and was too self-aware to have been able to create a cult of personality, something that was necessary for USSR success. Though I think, had Trotsky been leader, it would have been a much more longer lasting nation and something which would have followed Communist aims more so than the Stalin-USSR. Side: Stalin
