It seems that Cuaroc has done many of us a favor by copying each of FromWithin's debates so that we all might participate in (and laugh at) his ludicrous statements. How many of you are also automatically banned from his debates, I wonder?

Banning people from a debate does one thing: it shows that you have no interest in actual discourse, preferring instead to screaming out loud your own views and glossectomizing anybody who would disagree.

The only legitimate reason to ban somebody is if they get abusive, and even then it should be a hard call and a last resort.

(Note: A glossectomy is the removal of the tongue.)

I don't care how well mannered the person is , if they don't understand the material then they should stop participating.

Welllllllllllllllllll. Te only reason you should ban anyone is if they are trolling or using language you do not like. That about it. If you are banning them because you disagree with them then you are a piece of shit.

The only legitimate reason to ban someone is if they are being legitimately abusive - essentially they aren't there to debate, more just scream. However even then it should be a tough call. If you aren't sure whether you should ban them or if it's just personal bias, don't ban them.

I've only banned one person once on my only debate that I have created.

It's fun! I like to piss some people off and then ban them and piss them off some more.

Banning someone from a debate or banning someone from speaking their minds is in my mind one of the worst evils you can commit in this country without actually breaking the law. Under the First Amendment of the Constitution, people are endowed with the right to freely express their opinions and ideas, no matter how "offensive" those ideas are. That doesn't mean that those ideas can't have backlash brought against them. However, banning an opinion or a side of the argument from being shared is not the hallmark of a free nation. It is one of the principles that Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Mao Zedong based their totalitarian rule of off.
